WOW shes pretty much showing her gravid colouration , so be warry as of now that she has eggs and to be safe just have a 1 by 1 or bigger bin, i use a recycling bin and fill it to the top , but no less then ten inches of substrate in the bins or they wont dig for you and keep it moist so it doesnt cave in on her while shes digging but shes a beautiful panther though i love her bright peachy colours , justa beaut! im guessing shes a ambilobe or sambava???

Unless you have some serious pink reflecting off those walls or you did some serious color editing of the photos to enhance the color, I’d say you have a gravid female, too. A Rambette :)

How old is "he" supposed to be? To be sure, take a good, clear photo of the tail base right at the back legs and post it.

Hey Luna, if I think what your talking about, I see no spurs in that first pic.

Get a close up on the back hind legs.

 Jr ...

Panther chams don’t have spurs. Ony male Veileds have the spurs so a photo of the back feet is useless to determine gender in Panthers.

A photo of the tail base where it meets the body at the back legs is what is necessary to determine gender of Panthers (depending upon age, of course).

Thanks for your replys , "he" is ameant to be 10 months coming on 11, also the reason he could be going that colour is the walls around him are that colour? Also like i said he does puff out and hiss at us and i didnt think that girls could do that? I will post some pics later of his back legs and but!

Thanks
Daryl

Puffing out is not really a matter of gender. Its the animal themselves and all have different personalities. Luna, correct me if I’m wrong though but to me that sounds like something they just told you for the sake of it.

That IS a female and quite possibly gravid. A male would be showing color at 10-11 months old. You need a laying container in her cage or she could die eggbound.

Yeah, I have to stick with female, too. And very gravid. And needs a laying box ASAP.
I’d missed the Ambaja part in the prior post. That surely is no 10-month old male Ambanja.

Remember, the wall color would have no bearing on your cham’s color. Chams do not change color to match surroundings or to camouflage. Their colors & patterns changes reflect their moods and health.

As for hissing, puffing, gaping ... that is basic cham defensive/stress behavior and not exclusive to males, despite what you were told. Too bad the place that sold you the cham either doesn’t know what the h*ll they’re talking about or outright lied just to be rid of a gravid female. She will lay infertile eggs throughout her life, so you really need to read up and be prepared.
As for her immediate health, it is imperative you provide her with a laying box. She may soon be exploring her cage more, scratching at sides and bottom, showing a decline in appetite, and appear more thirsty. She also needs a really good nutritious diet and more calcium in the form of live Phoenix worms, or dust.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Josh, sorry to hear about your wisdom teeth...ouch! I know the pain :) Glad you’re doing okay other than that!
Yeah, doing fine here too, thanks. The newest Quad addition was not a purchase and not planned. That friend who owns the exotics store (remember he breeds chams, snakes, parrots, etc ... bought my Sambava girl and clutch; talked me into taking all those cargo accident baby turtles, etc) gave him to me. This new Quad is his retired breeder, but he doesn’t like to sell his personal animals in the store, so he asked me to take him.
Again, good to see you! Take care.

We were all "noobs" once! Really the important things about female care are not overfeeding, and providing them a place to lay. They could lay every 3-4 months, so I just leave the laying container in with my females just in case. Overfeeding them and keeping them too warm can cause large clutches and that can shorten their lives. Don’t supplement too much more, just make sure she is on a good regular supplement schedule so she has the extra calcium for the eggs, but don’t shake and bake-too much is still bad. You have yourself a real beauty there. The only thing is if that bad ’ol Petstore told you it was a boy they might not know really what the locale is, and it is nearly impossible to tell the females apart.
