I have been told (and can see why) that a substrate is not good. It is not good because when they eat they can ingest it. I dont use anything. But you can use newspaper or paper towels also.

I was also told that a 100 watt bulb it way too much for a baby cham. I dont really know what to suggest but I would think a 50 watt would be good for now.

OK-please DON’T tell me that you went and got chameleons without doing any research. You are going to cook them with a 100 watt bulb. You can house young babies together but they will need to be separated at about 3 months of age or sooner if one grows faster or they show aggression. Read the thread a few down where one of his chams died. Please tell me they are NOT in an aqaurium, they DO have a UVB bulb unobstructed by glass or plastic, that you DO have a good digital thermometer and that you are keeping them in the low 80’s if they are real small, that you do NOT have substrate, that you DO know how to supplement them properly, and that you DON’T have anything truly stupid like a waterfall and that you ARE misting them several times daily so they do not die a miserable death from dehydration. Please go to my website-the link is in my profile-and go to the link on chamleon care and read up. These are not easy guys to take care of.

 Sonic ...

Okay, I guess I’m going to have to be another rude one here, but so be it ... if only for the sake of dispensing correct husbandry information and the well-being of chameleons.

This is what you’ve just advised this new owner of a baby cham:

Quote:

"I dont really know what to suggest but I would think a 50 watt would be good for now."

Now ... you and I just had a fairly long dialogue in the thread you started just 3 days ago, titled "Heating". This is EXACTLY what I told you just yesterday in that thread (you’ve been using a 100-watt):

Quote:

"Never ever ever just rely on wattage. You have to actually measure temps and either adjust the wattage or the distance between the bulb and basking point to achieve the proper, safe basking temps. Never let anyone tell you to just use X wattage.
What are the dimensions of your enclosure? What kind/type? That can have a bearing on wattage as well."

Do you know the dimensions of this particular new keeper’s enclosure? Did you ask what type of enclosure it is? I usually recommend regular household bulbs for heat; for economy, ease and even safety. They don’t come in 50-watt size. So, what are you recommending that is 50-watts?

This is why Julirs, Jonas and I .. among others ... get frustrated. It’s great that you are asking questions and learning, it’s great that you are participating and offering help. I took the time to answer your questions thoroughly and clearly, to best assist you AND you cham. Please try to pass on the same information to others that you receive from experienced keepers. Thanks :)

I did not say I used a 100 w bulb. I just asked if that was too much. So dont accuse me of anything.

I stand corrected. You’re right. I went back and re-read. You didn’t say you use a 100-watt. My apologies.
