 Dark colors

wadu finished his shed last night. all day today hes been dull and dark in color while he basks. this is the first time he satys dark for this long. is there something wrong?

ah i just read online that they turn dark to absorb more light. i was worried it was stress. he turns lighter when he moves away.

When an adult male and female are placed together and one or the other is unreceptive (in my experience, it’s usually the female), then yes, they will turn dark. Veileds will also display other very dark color patterns in response to the unwanted presence of a "trespasser".

Additionally, when unreceptive they may also display other defensive and aggressive behaviors such as head-bobbing, swaying, actual fighting and biting.
