I am currious if my snake is male or female. It’s not really important, so I am not interested in doing a DNA test or having the poor "guy" probed. But I have heard that you are able to tell the difference by the tail. If any of you have pictures of the difference or can explain it. I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Female. Shorter tail and the tail sort of indents just aft of the vent.


Male. Longer tail and a slight bulge just aft of vent.

This is for king snakes, another colubrid species, very similar. photos credit to Lampro.
