Actally it is at least 48 hours. Also I have to ask why do you feed outside the cage? Are you prepared to move a 8 foot 20+ pound snake in feed mode when he hits adult hood?

We have had our boy close to 3 years. He is over 6 feet and is 8 pounds. We have always fed in the cage. If you do proper maintaince and handling then the snake shouldn’t have any problem with mistaking you for food. However if all you do is open the cage and throw food in the snake will assosiate cage opening with food.

Randi

P.S. In 3 years we have never been bit or hissed at. And he has only struck once(closed mouth strike) because the ca jumped on him.

No need to remove a snake from It’s home to feed it,many reasons make it a bad choice. You won’t find me moving my burm around outside It’s cage with the scent of food around, get my drift?Very stressful for a large animal too.

OK when would i know when the snake needs more than one mouse? The guy at the pet store said "that I will notice a change in the behavior".

Ignore the person at the pet store, the advice he gave you is wrong. You really do not need to feed your snake more then one meal every 5-7 days. Leave her be for 2 days then you are able to take her out and handle her. Theory is to feed one meal size that is slightly larger then the thickest part of the snakes body. you should be able to see a lump.
