ETB’s (I’m assuming you mean the tree boas) are thought to be very powerful and aggressive. They are not "pet" snakes, they are more for observing than anything. Not saying you can’t tame them down, but you may want to start with some experience and a little baby if you want to make a "pet" out of it.

Problems can be :
Aggresiveness
Humidty problems
Refusal to feed.
Pretty much the same as most snakes. Emeralds are beautiful display snakes though.

If you are asking about C. caninus the first question you need to ask yourself is how much of a desire do you have to handle? If it is high on your priority list, then emeralds are not for you. They will tolerate limited handling, but the reality is they don’t like it. I see that you live in AZ. Any handling must be done in environmental conditions suitable to their needs, i.e. temps in the ’80s and humidity at minimal of 75%.

BTW, listing aggression as a problem is bunk! Healthy emeralds in suitable environmental conditions that have been allowed time to adjust and are not stressed by lots of traffic do not strike at everything that moves. If you are associating their nocturnal feeding response with aggression, you need to rethink your definition.

Once you’ve answered that all important question, then we can move on to actual requirements.

aggression in emeralds isnt "bunk". Try sticking your hand in a nice big emeralds cage. not saying that they strike at everything that moves but green trees and emeralds are almost always pretty nasty. unless you happen to find a chill one. Im not refering their nocturnal feeding response but their nature. But your definitly right about the stress factor though. Handling them can lead to refusal to eat. wich sucks

I’ve been keeping and breeding emeralds for 10 years and YES it is bunk! If you don’t have them set up properly then you are asking for it. If you buy WC junk, you are asking for it. Don’t tell me about aggression because you are wrong. Most folks who experience "aggression" have no clue how to set up a proper environment that eliminates stress. How many and how long have you been keeping emeralds?

I’m tired of folks who keep pushing forward so many MYTHS about emeralds. The BS has to stop! Every emerald I have can be handled as I have described.

Could care less if your impressed, wasn’t trying to. Just tired of the same garbage being spewed every time someone asks about emeralds. BTW, I stick my hands in some very large emerald cages every day, but not at night. Next you’ll be telling us that they have long front teeth for penetrating bird feathers, sheesh.

Hey I live in MO now but from AZ. I have had quite a few snakes and taken very good care of them. Basically im about to choose between a caiman or gtp/etb. for love i have my dog and im ok with getting a bite here and there. holding isn’t a biggie (esp if i get a caiman, which i won’t be holding) but I would like to hold the snake on occasion, or if working with them a lot when they are young will help I will take the nipping like a champ. i have done quite a bit of research (will need a bit more i admit) but i will be able to take proper care of whichever I get. clark are you breeding for sale? would you recommend a etb or gtp. thanks. you can send me a message if you would rather.
