Need help with red tail boa

I got a red tail off a guy about two days ago and I was told hasn’t eaten in two months, well I feed her a couple of small mice and even now she keeps striking the enclosure when I get next to it,so I stop getting next to the enclosure because I don’t want her to hurt herself,he said she was real tame and now that this doesn’t see to be to the case,I’m just wondering if anyone has some tips on how to get her to calm down and how to get her use to me so I can hold her

Hey, give the snake a few days to work off the stress, leave her alone completely don’t even go near the enclosure. After 4 days or so begin entering the room. Let her see you, let her know you’re not there to hurt her. The striking could very well be a defensive thing out of fear. After a few days of that she should start to be more and more calm with you in the room. Your next step is to put your hand in the tank (if/when you feel comfortable.. I would still keep my distance at this point). Let the animal catch your scent and familiarize it with your friendly demeanor. After a few more days, you can try touching her.

This process will take some time, but it should work pretty well.

Matt
