 Safe woods for cage??

im about to build cage but wanted to know what was the cheapest and best wood to use for a cage that is safe for the animal. thank you. post pics if you can for some ideas for me. thanks :)

Oak ply is always nice, and not that much more than regular plywood.

If you totally seal it in several thin coats of Spar Varnish (Marine Varnish) and let it dry and air out a week, It does not really matter, as it will be encased in acrylic. So, you CAN use pine...you just have to seal it well.

Stay away from Redwood/Cedar/Eucalyptus because they are just TOOOO oily/scented.
