well rainbow boa boas need a high humidity that is a Brazilian locality. i keep mine on sphagnum moss that is moistened. they need a ambient temperature of 80 during the day and 75 at night. you dont want it hotter than 80 as much hotter than that can be fatal for them

as far as feeding goes that one needs to eat appropriate sized rats hard to tell from the pics but a 5 footer should be able to eat at least medium to large rats. i would feed it in its enclosure, give it 3-4 days after eating for digesting, i would feed it every 14 days.

its going to need a cage size of at least 6x2x2 would be nice. but a 4x2 would also work for a short time.

good luck.

Find someone willing to take him. Try craigslist or call around shelters to see if hthey have gotten calls requesting reptiles recently.

By the way, temps over 90 can be very dangerous/fatal to these boas, so I am glad you found him in time.

Well this was obviously the work of some retard who cant keep snakes, and judging by your age and the fact that you still need your parents permission to keep it, i don’t think that your ready for this certain species of snake because these guys do require a bit more looking after then lets say... a corn snake.

Don’t let yourself be the next retard to let this snakes life become endangered, find a reptile shelter/owner whose going to keep it without killing it and give it to them.

WAT...
It doesn’t matter what age someone is I have seen plenty of kids that know and respect reptiles alot more then some adults. My 4 yr old daughter is WELL educated on alot of different types of reptiles and would put alot of people to shame with her knowledge. This place is to help educate, not to bash people. I hope the future you take the time to read before snapping on someone!!

You are one very lucky girl. These snakes aren’t even native to America and you found it in your back yard. Regardless of what some of these folks might tell you this species of snake isn’t hard to take care of all. I have of these my self. All you need to do is keep it in a Rubbermaid bin about 30gallons or bigger. Make sure you have two hides so it can choose from either one or a water dish they can drink from and soak in.

Rubbermaid bins with holes are much better than tanks because tanks are horrible at holding humidity

When snakes soak in water sometimes they do it because it helps them use the bathroom easier so as soon as you see snake feces in the water change the water immediately to maintain good care.

These snakes love to burrow into the substrate. So for substrate you should use cypress mulch (which you can buy from Petco) because not only can they burrow in it but cypress mulch also holds humidity which is what they need. Even though cypress mulch holds humidity you should mist the enclosure at least 2-3 times a day. And the snake will be just fine. These snakes are very docile even at their biggest size so you won’t have to worry about it biting you unless you smell like its food.

Always feed your snake outside of the enclosure because if you feed it inside the enclosure it may get cypress mulch in its stomach while eating the food and that will cause impaction (impaction is when certain things enter the stomach of a snake and cant be ingested) and kill your pet. Below this message is picture of my rainbow boa and its enclosure. If you have any questions just ask and I’ll gladly give you the proper answer.

As far as good goes this size rainbow boa should be eating at least 2 -3 mice a week regardless if they are live or frozen thawed. I feed mine live because they have a great appetite and feed well. Also below is a link to show you a picture of the stuff I use in my rainbow’s enclosure. You have a beautiful snake. If you don’t want it I’ll gladly pay you for it if your parents can find a way to ship it to me.

Some people have said medium to large rats if you are going to feed rats I’d make sure they are frozen thawed because live rats will due damage to your snake. If our snakes are the same size (which I don’t know haven’t measured mine) you can keep it on mice if you want.

I live in Boston, Mass and you don’t need them at any certain temperature because I keep mine at room temperature and it does fine. I don’t even have a heat mat and it does well. Not only that. You live in California so just keep it in the house at a good temperature. My house stays at 73 degrees all the time so I am sure you can keep yours at/around the same and it will do just fine.

One more thing (lol) your parents probably won’t let you but since I have 4 snakes I breed rats 1.2 (these numbers stand for gender and how many I have of each one. So this means I have one male and two females). Since I breed my rats I don’t have to spend so much money on rodents. Depending on how many snakes you have you may want to start doing this if your parents let you it’s a real money saver but again you may not need to do this.
