Biggest scare of my life today i woke up cleaned my BRBs cage and he had a almost perfect shed i don’t know if people have been keeping up with his story but i got him from a pet store where he was caged with a ball python extremely dehydrated a respiratory infection and mites. his mites have been cleared up and hi cage has been at 85 - 90% humidity i have been using a lactated ringer to cleaner up the respiratory today was his last day and i was doing the first CC into his left nostril i get about half way done and a watered down blood starts to come out of his mouth along with bubble! lets say i instantly started to panic and called my vet with him in my hands and a needle in my mouth. she says its the potassium from the solution its breaking down his skin on the inside making it uncomfortable and bleeding. so this vet perscibed this to me and then tells me its causing him to have soars in the nostrils! Has anyone used a lactated ringer before and had the same result ?

Biggest scare of my life I had a BP that had a RI and The vet just gave me an anti biotic which was given orally, I personally wouldn’t give any meds through the nostrils. Hell most humans nostrils are sensitive just think of a smaller animal. I hope BRB is better soon and I honestly would concider looking to another vet for a second opinion.

Biggest scare of my life jesus, that sounds horrible. id freak out for real. i haven’t heard of the noted treatment method... my vet suspected an infection (possible RI- which i still think was bull) and gave me injectable antibiotics, which were to be administered on the body of the snake. I wonder why you weren’t given antibiotics? Thought that was standard treatment for RI’s… in any case, hope he/she is okay.

Biggest scare of my life That is terrible. I think you need to find a new vet, Baytril is how you treat an RI. You can inject it, or you can give it to them orally, the vet will decide. Baytril is the cure-all for reptiles and small animals lol!

Biggest scare of my life I am a fan of Baytril, its great i have used it in the past. the Lactated ringers cured the RI but i am never using that again. he is perfectly fine today i had him out earlier and had a vet look at him 100% healthy she told me which I’m very excited about! but sadly said my Ball python who is in shed so i haven’t taken out this week was yawning about 15x today which at first i thought he was just realigning his jaw but nope he has a RI which i had the BRB in another room and never contacted one without showering before the other ones came out. eh just a bad week
