 No Poo for a while

We’ve got a 5.5’ female boa and she consistently poops after shed, but for the last two, she has not. Her temps and humidity are all the same as they have been. She does have an RI and I am going to make an appointment for her today. Its not well along or bad at all. Other than her non pooing she is doing very well and eating regularly. Thanks.

Have you tried putting her in warm water? I have a rubbermaid in my 2 boas cage in they go to the bathroom in it when they cant otherwise.

I actually was planning on it tomorrow. She hates being soaked but I’m gonna do it for her anyway. Thanks.

Anymore suggestions are still welcome.

Yep. No change in feeding. 1 lg. rat bi-weekly. I am currently treating for her respiratory now. Her vet appointment was today and she is taking her antibiotics orally (really funny to watch a snake with a bad taste in their mouths).

Anyway, maybe if she gets her RI cleared up, it will help.

Please wish her luck for me with both her RI and her poo. Thank you!

(anymore suggestions would still be awesome to hear).

the rule of thumb that I have heard is no more than 3 feedings until they poop. what I have found best to work is the put them in a rubbermaid with warm water then put the lid on so they have to stay in there and swim and move around. do that once or twice and it should do the trick. It has for me. good luck

Well what is odd here is what are the temps *both cold and hot side* of the cage, the Humidity? If everything is the same, how did the snake get an RI? Unless you have taken the snake in that already had an RI? If not I would say take a look at your temps, I would not let the cage drop below 80 and hot side of 90 and at least 50% humidity!

 No Poo for a while

my 5 1/2 foot rtb didn’t poop for a while and when soaking didn’t work i was told to take a q-tip dipped in mineral oil and liberally lubricate her cloaca with the oil.. that did the trick she pooped like crazy two days later. It is serious.. her poo had calcified in her it was hard as a rock and could have developed into an obstruction. I was scared to do this but she didn’t even seem to notice that i was violating her in that manner. maybe she knew i was helping her

take a small amount of vegtable or mineral oil and ust put a drop or two in her mouth, she will poo her brains out and be all clear. i know this kind of sounds like a hack move but i have been breeding and housing boas for a long time and occasionally a snake doesnt like to go, so you make it. It doesnt hurt it, jsut makes it go to the bathroom.

You may find that she is using everything the rat has to offer, ready for the breeding season, because she’s gonna need that extra weight through the breeding season. However you could try soaking her for 30 minutes twice a day in warm water, but be very careful that the water doesn’t cool too quick. When I have soaked mine, I pop them in a tub of water and place this inside her rack to maintain a nice warm water temp.

However, if she has an RI, i would alway err on the side of caution and get that looked at first of, as you don’t want to make matters worse by placing her in a tub of water, which in turn will create very high humidity. The RI is the priority and if she still hasn’t pooped for a while after that, a vet can do a Clocoa rince, which is when they basically stick a tube up their backside and flush them out if stool has become solid and impacted in their system.
