New Boa, No Bite! Hey guys anyone who read my last thread knows i had a 6ft red tail that i got from a rescue. Well yesterday i traded it in for a smaller one. Shes around 4 1/2 feet. Shes beautiful, and very tame. The ladie who runs the rescue tells me about the 6ft snake it was never handled, and shes happy we got something smaller to start with. haha i wish she would of saved us the trouble and just given us the smaller one to start with. im very appy with the new snake. Heres a couple shots i took over her.

New Boa, No Bite! I dunno if it’s just me but that’s kind of messed up of you. You decide to bring back a snake you "rescued" since it didn’t like to be handled so you could get another one that was more tolerant of handling? Reptiles aren’t puppies or kittens. Some will tolerate handling and some won’t and there’s nothing you can do about it. You can work with them to tame them down but there’s still a 50/50 chance that the snake will calm down. I’m not surprised the other guy bit you since you didn’t even provide a proper enclosure nor gave it the time to acclimate so you could then work with it. You just wanted something to have and show off when you walk down the streets. See that’s what happens with these poor snakes. People want them because they’re "cool" because they get big and everyone wants to show off a big snake. I hope this one doesn’t bite you and you decide to take it back for another.

New Boa, No Bite! first of all, i had 4 diffrent people look at the cage and say it was really nice for the snake.
*the person who runs the rescue
*a ladie with 30yrs experience with snakes, who goes to schools to teach people about them
*a pet store owner
*and a ladie who runs a reptile show
2nd why would i want a snake i couldnt trust? i dont want a snake just to look at in a cage. id like it to be a family pet.
3rd having a big snake to be cool? bra i have 3 other snakes that are all small, i love reptiles and have had turtles, snakes, lizards for 11years. the boa was something i was intrested in so i gave the big one a try and realized i wasnt ready for something that big just yet.

New Boa, No Bite! So if you’re not ready for something that big why get another one? It’s gonna eventually get that big in 4 months or so. Good luck
