Quote: hey guys just curious to know how big you have been able to get your boas
any body with some 10’ + boas and also is there anyways possible to grow them that big?? i currently have a small albino female which im looking to get as big as i possibley can Albinos are genetically weaker than any other morph, so you have to be careful with them. I have an albino male that it CB06 and he is just approaching 4.5ft. I haven’t rushed his feeding and most definately haven’t under fed him. He has had one meal a week and that rat has always been the size of his girth at the widest part. He is now getting to the size of taking large rats and I will be cutting back his diet to 1 rat a fortnight as it approaches the breeding season. Obviously through the breeding season, the temps will be lowered, so he won’t be eating much at all..... if anything. Don’t set yourself a goal to get you snake as big as you can as that’s a wrong thing to do. If you want a big snake, get a breed that gets bigger. There is a guy i know who had a huge female albino and that died this year at about 9 ft long and *4 years old!* That was fed heavily. Although Boa translates into giant snake, they don’t get too big. Males 6 - 7ft and females average at about 8 - 9ft, which is big for a boa. Some get bigger and some are smaller. Let her grow steadily. I can guarantee that you’ll enjoy her more. Baz |

i have had boas for 4 years but the petshop guys and stuff didnt specify all that much.... they said just to feed her once a week, give her clean water (duh). they never even mentioned the humidity or temps, they just said’ "put in the heating cord under the astro turf" (the fake grass stuff), and humidity, i found out to keep the humidity at about 50% of 60%, and a lil higher wen shedding shows. i want all my boas to live long and i think i havnt being doing it right |

Quote: wat does super feed mean
I haven’t the foggiest, but it maybe the same as Power feeding, which basically is overfeeding your snake to encourage, quick growth, trying to get a snake up to size as fast as possible, mainly for breeding purposes....dangerous to the animals health. Quote: when does the breeding season start
Usually, breeders (well one’s that I know) will begin to slowly lower their temperatures about mid to late October time, making sure that they are cooled off by late November/ beginning of December . The breeding season will usually carry into February/ March time, or when the female visually ovulates. Some people make the mistake of pulling the male out when they see the female ovulate, but this is a good time for them to be together. There are some good books on the market about breeding if you are interested, but it’s best to latch onto someone who has had success, to gain experience. In the 1st week of February, the temperatures, should start to slowly be raised again, until about the 3rd week in March they are at their DTH in the high 80’s. Quote: do i have to care if i dont plan on breeding any of my boas
Opinions vary on this. Personally, i think it is unnatural to feed any snake all year around, as once in a good feeding schedule, they become prone to obesity. Therefore a cooling period does them more good than harm. I’m sure there are others who may disagree. Quote: is 8 days enough for her to digest, properly?
This again will vary from snake to snake, taking into consideration that the higher the temperatures, the quicker digestion will be and what age the snake is. My babies got fed one rat, which was as wide around as the snake, once per week. My male is 4.5ft and he has just gone onto giant rats. He now has either 2 large rats every 14 days or 1 giant rat every 14 days. My female is 6ft and she has 2 giant rats every 14 days. Some people will feed religiously ever 7 days, whereas some people will give the snake a good meal, once every 14 - 21 days. I am happy with the way I do it, as is my herp vet and other hobbiests i know. If my female was on rabbits, she would have 1 rabbit every 21 days. No more than that. My temperatures are as follows: I have a basking spot provided by UTH of 90 - 92f. The cool end is between 82f and 84f. The humidity is between 40 - 60%, but I find that this time of year, it may hang around at the 70% mark. As long as you don’t have too low temperatures and no visible condensation running down the walls of your enclosure, you’ll be fine. |
