 Do I help the egg?

I have an incubated chicken egg that was due yesterday, He peeps and I can see his shadow wiggling in from a light. He is a day late and still hasn’t started to peck his/her way out! Do I help him by creating a small hole? It reacts to my voice and light, Shouldn’t it be hatched by now?

The main question: How long can the chicks last in the limited air inside the shell??

It’s my first egg!

Get it wet and carefully take it out! Then massage it gently. We have had this problem before.

Thank you so much for the advice! I appreciate it!!!
Last night I had taken the chick out safely.

There is another egg having the same issue, if the chicks keep having issues, should I not breed the two parents?

I don’t think it has to do with the parents. I think it is just the chicks getting dry so they can’t move in their shell. Like every time we hatch out chicks this seems to happen, I don’t know how to prevent it. Is it dry where you live? Here it is pretty dry, maybe that is the problem?

Yes, I live in Southern California, in the high desert. Perhaps I should put a little more water inside the incubator? I just want to make sure all the babies survive, They mean a lot to me.

And thank you for replying!

I’m not really sure, maybe. What kinds are you hatching out?

I’m hatching baby Turkens, aka Naked Neck chickens. This is my first batch of turkens that I’m trying to hatch, and like their father, they seem quite rebellious.
