No need for a vet ...so sorry ...I would be mad at myself too.... It will heal all by itself ... it might help if you could keep it clean and have a bit of cream (white) triple antibiotic ...neosporin ... wash the wound ...apply cream ...leave it open to breathe. No wrap or bandage.

If you have sand or loose substrate it would be wise to remove that and keep your dragon on clean paper towels until it heals.

If the tail starts to rot and turn black and the skin doesn’t heal ...then you will need to get it treated by a vet.

 TALe FELL OFF!!! :(

I agree with this advice, and no, it won’t grow back unfortunately. I have a hatchling here that lost part of the tail by a cage mate biting her tail to get a cricket, and another I got from an expo with part of the tail missing, and they are doing wonderful. If you infact did do it by accident, please to not feel to bad, these things happen sometimes to the best of us, and the little cutie will be just fine :) When you bathe her you can also add some Betadine solution to the bath water to help prevent infection. As stated, just make sure it stays clean, and no loose substrate...

 TAIL FELL OFF!!! :(

Thanks so muchh for the advicee!! and making me feel better, even though i still feel really bad... :( i put some neosporn on this morning, and i had paper towels in there thank god i didnt hav sand in there already, that would have been really hard to clean!! but his tale proly would hav been saved if i did! he proly could hav dug him self out..! o and my boyfriend found the tail.. the bad part about this is that it is my boyfriends bd, we each picked one out, an that was hisss.... :(

Thanks a bunch guys!! u really did make me feel better..!
Oh an newfgal were would i find betadine?? my boyfriends dad has a cwd and his mouth looks he maybe have been rubing his nose to much, it looks a little funky, can he use that for his mouth, and can i put that directly on my bd tail?? or should i still do the bath??

Thanks again.. :)

are they housed together? the one porbably bit the other one if not nm lol
anyway you should be able to find betadine at any pharmacy store or walmart

i would just put it in the bath like nancy said, it is a liquid so it isnt something you can really apply to an area you would still have to soak it so putting it in bath water would be easiest

as for the water dragon i am not sure if it would be safe or not

is the rubbed area in his mouth or just on the outside? what size enclosure is he in? i would put up some paper around the bottom so he cant see out and hopefully that will keep him from doing any further damage to his nose

You can use it on the CWD’s mouth, or snout, but it should be diluted. I have a rescued WD here that had the same issue with snout rub, and within a few days of using the diluted betedine solution it cleared up :P For the beardies tail also, I would dilute it. If you put it in the bath water, make it so the water looks like a week tea sort of...

Best of luck :)

If you did do it on accident with a rock then its no big deal but if you’re not sure, and they are housed together it may have been the other dragon biting it off. In which case, it is a big deal and they should be seperated immediately. Good luck with the healing process, I’m sure you’ll be just fine.

Are they housed together? If so... are they from the same clutch and do you know their sexes?

You can clean it with antibacterial soap, but do not put soap in the bath water. And Betadine in the bath water is fine, if he drinks some he will be fine, or you could let him soak for a while and have a drink and then add the Betadine solution :)

just b/c they are from the same clutch doesnt mean they will always get along especially if they have to compete for food and basking areas
and two males usually never get along after sexual maturity

and the one may have bitten the other on accident too trying to grab for food

anyway good luck with getting them better :)

 TAIL FELL OFF!!! :(

Hey,
Like Lovetheleo said being from the same clutch doesn’t mean they won’t fight.
Seems more likely that the other one would have bitten his tail than you putting a rock on it. It would have to be a sharp rock with much force. I don’t know, only you can tell if it was your doing or not but from the outside it seems more likely that there is some aggression going on. You will have to seperate them eventually anyway (2 males can never be housed together) so maybe you should do it now to prevent something worse from happening. Good luck with the healing process.

 TAIL FELL OFF!!! :(

I have a hatchling here as well that had half his tail bitten off at just a few weeks old, it was due to a cricket on his tail and another went after it and bit, hard, and half the tail fell off, I saw it happen but was to late getting the cricket off before the other one bit his tail...who knows, that could be possible as well, especially since your not sure. If your going to keep the two together for a while, they will need a large tank. More than one in to small of a tank will cause aggression for sure. They may fight for basking spots, food, etc...I have 15 5 month old beardies from the same clutch in a 6 foot long enclosure and have yet to see any aggression, although the biggest male had to come out due to sexual maturity kicking in, lol....Keep a close eye on them :)
