My reptile Has a abnormality in his tail

My Bearded Dragon Rocky Has had this kink in his tail for a bit now and I was wondering what it was. It seems not to effect his walking or lifting of his tail.

What do you feed him for greens and live feeders and do you offer supliments on the food? It may be early stages of MBD...

Nancy.

I am going to agree with Nancy, here. So, you may want to take your beardie to a vet, just in case.

Ok I feed him spinach leaves regularly and I have a Rep-Cal Calcium with Vitamin D3 Powder that I throw on his crickets or wax worms twice a week on tuesdays and fridays and mondays and fridays I rotate. Also a 100 watt basking bulb UVA and a 75 watt infrared heat bulb and a normal house light bulb in his tank and it is a 40 gallon tank.

Hi there,

Ok you have to stop feeding Spinich first of all it binds the calcium intake and also the d3 should be given once a week, and you need to be giving your beardie pure calcium without d3 and phosphorus free a few times a week, depending on his age, and also you need a multivitiman for him to be given once a week as well...what brand ov uvb does he have? UVA/UVB are both required for beardies, uvb helps them process the calcium intake so without one vitimam supliments will be useless...go to beautiful dragons.com for a great list of greens for him, and i believe this is early stages of MBD. You need to get him to a vet which they will give him calciun shots or what not to help him...How old is he and what are his temps reading? what do you measure them with?

Nancy.

My reptile Has a abnormality in his tail

from what i understand he doesnt have a uvb at all

mvb are great for beardies with mbd or get the reptisun 10.0

also the infrared light is not really neccisary they dont need any heat at night as long as it does not get below the low 60’s

My reptile Has a abnormality in his tail

Ok spinach bad gotcha. Ill go that site and see if there’s any veggies on there that are sold in my local stores. The Calcium I am giving him right now is a Phosphorus free Calcium with Vitamin D3. I am positive I have a UVA basking light bulb in there. Also is UVB just a standard light bulb? he is about a year old and I have thermo temp strips on both ends of the tank reading 75 on the cool side and 90-95 on the hot side.

No UVB bulbs will run you around 40-60 bucks in a store so defeniately not a regular light bulb. MVB are your best bet I believe. I’m still learning here, so everybody else either back me up or correct me so we can help this beardie.

Hot side needs to be around 102 F

How old is he? Calcium with D3 should be given once a week, and pure calcium 2 x a week for an adult, and for a baby twice a day, depending on the age, if he is over 4 months, calcium 2 x a week...And no a uvb is not a regular bulb, i agree a mvb will help him alot, but you can only use those for a larger tank. You should get him to a vet asap, for calcium shots and what not...i’m sure he has MBD, and get him a uvb asap, and while you wait, take him outside everyday, for at least 30 min for natural sunlight...You must take action now, or it will keep getting worse, MBD is a slow painful death for these guys...For uvb either get a Reptisun 10 long tube, or a Reptiglo 8, i would suggest with his condition getting a MVB, if you have a large enough tank, these put out alot of heat and uvb all in one....

Nancy.

Wow, spinach AND no uvb bulb! Ouch! There ya go. For a temp fix, take him outside for at least 20 mins a day, NOT in a glass tank! That and NO spinach. That will help until you get the right set-up.

Thanks for the help. One more question, will the MBD go away and his tail return to normal or will it be there forever?

My reptile Has a abnormality in his tail

If the changes are made and he is taken care of properly, correct temps, correct supliments and dosage, correct uvb, etc, he will recover nicely, as for the kinked tail, it will probable always be there, but if you take care of him proprely, he will do just fine...do not put this off, he needs serious attention asap...good luck, and if you have any more questions we are all here for you...

Nancy.
