 When Harry fights Billy...

My brother, Robi on this website, thinks I should get a male bearded dragon. Like some people, I also plan on getting another male after a little while. My question is, are males typically hostile towards each other, enough to the point where it’s a bad idea?

Yes that is correct ..they will try to domineer one another ...bobbing, displaying black beard, arm waving ...chasing and biting ..damage and death can occur...they must always remain seperated or you may have a serious accident...especially as they mature and become more powerful larger animals. Now ...one male can be housed with 2 or 3 females or a harem ..lol

I agree, except with the male housed with two or three females. The male will try to breed the females at all times causing them great stress. That is what happened to the little girl I rescued. Because he kept trying to breed with her she was not able to lay all of her eggs and became egg bound. she died a couple of weeks ago.
If you do decide to do this, make sure the females are older than 18 months and at least 350 grams each. You don’t want them to be laying eggs before they are adults and placing the calcium that is supposed to go to their bones into those eggs.

Another reason for not housing them together is that some, because of the dominating issued, will not eat and will always be afraid. I have seen all this. I would suggest you house them separately, unless you want to breed and are ready for hundreds of babies. Remember, females can retain sperm and lay a clutch of eggs once a month for up to a year.

Sorry CP -- You know I love you!!!! ;)

No need to apologize EDEL ...lol..I am just thinking young juveniles ...not mature

You are absolutely correct ...what was I thinking...of course if they are sexually mature the breeding non stop is a serious problem ....

OK Ty for the correction...

I have to agree with Edel...she is very informative & knowlegeable about beardies....she knows her stuff...never ever put 2 males together...they will be after each other...as Edel said...it is a big mistake to do so.. B
P. S. Males with females is another bad idea...males will domineer...females will suffer...they don’t have it in their demeanor to make it on their own...they need someone, some person to look after them in captivity...be sure as juvies that you regroup them according to size...its very important that you observe them often to be sure they are ok...oftentimes they know they are opposite sexes....we as humans cannot always tell until they get older...Take good care B

Wait, does this mean a male should be all alone?

They all should be housed alone, any sex, especially males, some people house females together, but even that is taking a big risk, it is even a risk while breeding them, sometimes injury or death may happen...
