pretty much, basking lamps are just really low wattage heat lamps that raise the temp on a specific spot, you only need it if you have a real large enclosure i think

Along with the uvb, you will need a basking lamp, and due to the size of the tank you have, you will have to get a lower whattage bulb, and may have to test different whattages to get the temps correct...

lol im a big fan of dimmer switches so if you dont have the money to go out and buy a different balb every 2 seconds like most people lol. just buy a dimmer switch and controll the temps your self. and yes they are the same and you still need uvb. and what size is the tank never really said that or i didnt catch it. and how old is your dragon or how big?. might be time to upgrade tank.

how old is your dragon. and yeah thats a good idea to get the temps right only thing about the 50g long it will be long enough by far but the width of the cage might not be that good so you might have to upgrade adventually when he becomes like about a foot long upgrade to something with more width or at that time build your own which is cheaper by far and you can build it the way you want. then you could go mvb as well which then saves on uvb and light balbs every few months to only replacing it once a year
