A Word of Advice On Bulbs with Warranties.

Here’s an educational story for you:
1 or 2 months ago, I bought some new mercury vapor bulbs at the San Diego Reptile Super Show. It was the brand that I usually get, which only needs to be replaced once a year. They came with a warranty, so I thought that I wouldn’t have to worry about it if the bulbs malfunctioned. Well, I was wrong. Yesterday one of the bulbs went out and never came back on. I complained to the company that I bought them from, but they wouldn’t help me. Here’s why: MVB manufacturers won’t replace faulty bulbs unless you can prove that the bulb was actually bad. Here’s the list of things that they require for you to prove it:

1. Within 30 days of your purchase of the bulb, you must fill out and mail the warranty card inside the box.

2. You must keep your receipt when you buy the bulb.

3. You must keep the box which the bulb came in.

If you don’t do all of these things, you won’t get a refund or a replacement bulb. I hope that this post prevents other people from making the mistake I did.

Wow. Would it really hurt them to send out one bulb? You would think it would be cheaper for them to give you another then to loose potential customers (from you coming to a public forum and telling your story).

I can’t speak for online supply stores, but here in my store, if a product is defective, I replace it no questions asked. I only sell products I can stand behind, and if a store is unwilling to do that, they don’t need your business. Just my thoughts on it.
If the store you bought it from won’t stand behind the product they sell, call the manufacturer, if you raise a little hell with them, they will come around. This is especially true if you are the type of person that influences others, such as being a member of a forum like this one.
