 Mites

Hey guys, so my friend told me her Dragon has these small red dots all over him, and she said you can rub them off, and pop them. I told her they were mites. So what i need to know is what does she need to do to get rid of the mites? I have 3 beardies and 85 babies, but ive never had this problem before so I’m not sure what to tell her. Thanks for any opinions.

 Mites

Hey,

First of all what she will have to do is take him out and clean everything with hot water and bleach solution, and if any of the decorations are wood and have holes in them, it will have to be thrown out...there is a product called "mite off" but i’m not sure if it will kill the mites or not...i have never had this problem either and i’ve never had to deal with mites...for the beardie tell her to give him a warm soak, and get as many off as she can, but i do know of something that will work...last year my local pet store owner had a big dragon there, and she cleaned a big piece of driftwood and put in there for him, the next day the dragon was covered in mites, she asked the vet what to use to get rid of them, and he said to use something called "Nix" this stuff is used for people who have head lice, i know, gross right? lol, but it did work...she put small amounts all over the dragon, let it stay on him for about 10 min, and then bathed him, well after that, she never saw any mites again, lol, and of corse she did throw out the wood and cleaned the cage properly....just goes to show that outside wood and rocks or etc, must be cleaned and baked, b/c sometimes just cleaning the wood doesn’t always work...This is safe for dragons though, basicly it’s just a type of shampoo, and it does work, but maybe someone else has gone through this and can help out...good luck!

Nancy.

Hey guyd, thanks for your opinions. I did tell her she needed to take everything out of the cage and throw all wood out, and soak everything in water and bleach solution, and I told her to take her dragon to the vet to get some cream or something for her lizard, but i will tell her what you guys have told me, and I’ll let you know how everything went after a week or so. Thanks so much guys, this helped alot.
