What uvb do you use for them? What do you feed them for greens and insects and how often? What size tank are they in and are they housed together?

what do you mean when you say UVB? I feed them romaine lettuce every day, and the crickets every 7-10 days, they are in a 55 gallon tank together, ive had them that way since i bought them

You mean you don’t have one? UVB is the lighting they need that give off rays like the sun to help them produce D3, and to keep them healthy...if you do not have one thats your problem and if so i am sure they have MBD, Metabolic Bone disease, uvb lighting helps prevent this along with supliments...Romaine lettuce is no good for them, no nutrition...beautiful dragons.com had a great list, and how much did you feed them as babies? They should have been eating as many crickets as they want 2-3 x a day as babies...Never house beardies together! What sex are they? A male will mate a female over and over and she may die from this, they only have to mate once and a female can lay alot of clutches of eggs every month for up to a year! 2 Males will fight and cause serious injury, and same for 2 females...And a 55 gallon is not big enough for 1 let alone 2....WOW!

Oh, and right now they should be offered crickets 2-3 x a week as much as they want, but, if you have had them this long with no uvb, i am surprised they are still alive!

Oh, no i have a UVB, i was just doing this all according to what the man that sold me these at the pet store i just found out they are male and female, kinda makes me sad now that i realise what a darn idiot i was and that (Censored) retard told me to do, i guess im gonna have to look for two more tanks, i have no idea what he fed them or how much but things will drastically change for my beardies this coming week, plus my mom doesnt think we need to move them im sure this will enlighten her.

Dam, thats a relief!!! What is the brand of the uvb? Is it a long tube? It should be stamped at the end of the bulb...the only safe ones are the ReptiSUN 10 long tube, or the ReptiGlo 8 long tube, or a Mercury Vapor Bulb...ALL compacts and coiled bulbs are harmful to herps, and others that are not stated above...

Omg!!! Are you serious?!?! I don’t want to be mean, but did you do ANY research before you got your dragons?! NO WONDER they AREN’T GROWING!!! Here’s your issues. Try to fix them IMMEDIATELY!

1.UVB is Essential for their growth and over all well being. It naturally comes from the sun. So you need to provide it for them in captivity. Its what allows them to properly digest their food and its what makes them grow.without it, they don’t grow, can be lethargic and most serious, they can develop a very serious disease called MBD. (metabolic bone disease.) its when they get no uvb or calcium. It makes their bones soft and deforms them. I’m not 100% sure, but I’m pretty sure it also causes serious neurological disorders as well. (ask Reflex. He knows. He rescued a dragon with advanced stage of MBD) GET A UVB BULB ASAP! It should go the entire length of the aquarium. Get no less than an 8 watt.

2. NEVER house your dragons together. They’ll compete food and prime basking/uvb areas. Separate them! If their 2 males, they’ll start to fight. If its a male and female, hell breed to her top soon and she’ll die.

3. Crickets should be bed DAILY! Not every 7 to 10 days. And dusted with vitamin and or calcium powder.

4. They need more than just romaine lettuce. All that is is crunchy water. There’s no nutritional value in it for them!!!! Do you at lest dust it with calcium??!! You need to be feeding them collard greens daily. Go to beautiful dragons dot com for a list of nutritional greens.

Get on all of this ASAP if you care at all about your dragons. I’m suprised their even still alive. I can guarauntee you they won’t live a long life if you don’t do something immediately!

Again I don’t mean to be insensitive or unkind but seriously! You should have done proper research. There’s no excuse. Good luck with your dragons!

WOW... a little harsh people. LOL
But yes, everything stated above is actually true. If you cant get a UVB right away... then take them out for natural sunlight everyday. At least 20-30 minutes.
Bearded dragons are not low maintenance reptiles! They take a lot of money, love, and proper care. If you have any questions... please feel free to ask!!
There are a lot of things they require, and could be very confusing to someone who doesnt understand or new to owning BDs. (I know you have owned a while, but not have the knowledge)
Hope all the info above helps out, and good luck with all the changes!! :)

Yea, alot of pet store owners will tell you anything to make a sale, some are honest though and will tell you how to properly care for them, while some don’t...it’s the sad truth...

It’s good you have the proper uvb lighting, as long as it’s the long tube light, and you will have to make alot of changes for them...the best of luck to you...

Ok, so I will retract some of the harsher statements I made in my post. When I wrote that the last post on this thread was the one where you said "What do you mean UVB?" and it took me forever to write my post cause I did it over text on my phone..

As you know, not all pet store employees know or care about what they’re selling. We’ve all, myself included, bought something from a pet store and trusted that the person selling actually knew what they were talking about.. That’s why I never buy anything without doing my own research first. If anyone at a pet store asks me if I need help, I always say no unless I need them to get me something.
I don’t even buy my pets from the pet stores anymore. A lot of them are very unhealthy. I wait till the next reptile show. Then I have lots of time to research and prepare before making my purchase. The other day I was in at the pet store getting mice for my snakes and I was looking at the Beardies and all the babies had major tail rot. Like half their little tails all rotten! So I mentioned it to the girl that this wasn’t very good, and she just shrugged. Didn’t care. I felt so bad for the little baby beardies. And they were selling them like that- mangled tails and all for $189!! If they at least lowered the price, someone might buy them!

So I’m glad your getting beardies on the right track. Again, I appologize for the harshness but at the same time from the appearance of your post it looked like you needed a verbal kick in the @$$.. Everyone on here, myself included, means well and only have the best interest of your beardies in mind. Feel free to ask questions. There are so many knowledgeable people on here that know so much! I learn something new almost every day from people on here!

Best of luck with your dragons!

I saw on your profile that you live in florida. repticon .com says that there will be a show in tampa in november. I don’t know if that’s anywhere near you, though. If that show won’t be convenient for you, ask your local reptile breeders/supply shops/cricket suppliers if they know of any upcoming local shows.

Just remember ... everyone is here to help! Any questions.. always feel free to ask!
I will not buy any pets from a petstore either. They DONT know what they are talking about. I have had 2 of them tell me to buy a Repti Glo 10.0! Sometimes I set them up, and ask them their oppinion just to hear it. I would say 95 percent of the time... THEY ARE WRONG!!!
Good luck with all the qiuk changes... and I hope your babies doint get too stressed. Although, trust me... you will see a difference when housed seperatly! They will be happy to have their own DOMANE. LOL

idk, since i started varying up their diet it looks like they have gotten larger already, we came up with an idea to get 3 dozen crickets in 3 seperate bags so we feed them like breakfast lunch and dinner, its a good thing you guys told me what i was doing wrong, i also tried moving their uvb closer because the tank is kinda tall

wow i didnt make sense at all lol. i meant "depending on when you bought the uvb it might be time to replace it"

its cause overtime the uvb pretty much uhh disintegrates? (sorry for lack of words) or is used up, and even though the light still lights up there wont be any more uv rays left. you generally have to replace them every 6 months.

Hi Im very new at keeping bd
I had him from a work mate that couldnt keep him anymore as moving

I have come on this forum loads but only posted twice
I have googled etc to find as much info as I can lots and lots of conflicting stuff hard to know what to ignore and what to take note of
lots of different ideas and advice
I do what I thinkg is right for my bd
He seems healthy no mites lumps or bumps eats well

I just wanted to say that its not always easy to know whats best .
My local pet shop are crap at advise but have good live food the store miles away has what seems to be great advice (or a least he says hes a reptile expert) he takes ages expalining things and seems interested.
I’m also confused about subtrate so many different opinions

For substrate, use non sticky shelf liner, paper towel or newspaper,{especially for a hatchling} Repticarpet, or tile, like slate, or something with a rough topping to prevent slipping or to keep the nails trimmed...loose substrates are risky to use, like sand, temps must be spot on to use sand or what not, but never use sand for a baby, and for an adult if you are to use it, make sure it is childrens play sand thats been washed and sifted, this is also a risk though, if you are just starting out with a beardie do not use any loose substrate, or your beardie may become impacted from it...
