 The Cicadas are coming!

Hi I was wondering if anyone has fed Cicadas to their beardies? Weíre about 3 weeks away from a 17yr. hatching and there will be TONS of free food for the taking. I was wondering if they were any good for beardies?????

I just did a little research and even though cicadas arenít poisonous, they may have been exposed to pesticides..Also they have hard exoskeletons that can cause obstruction.

Out here in AZ they are usually out in the middle of nowhere on mesquites so I donít know about the pesticide issue if you live somewhere similar. I know that I read about them only hatching once every 17 yrs but I hear them every year. You cannot miss that sound from miles away. I can also hear them when I am on I-10 going 80 MPH. Do they hatch on trees in your yard or something to be able to catch them that soon?

Iíd give your beardies some. I catch grasshoppers, locusts, moths, and katydids in the summer and feed them to all my lizards. I get a great feeding response when I feed these bugs. They are more fast and active then crix. If the cicadas are being hatched by me then my lizards will get them too.

Did you even read Raniís post? I totally agree. Sorry to be a bit rude, but sounds like what ever we say you still will feed them. I thought you wanted to know IF they can eat them. I know it is temping as there will be soooo many. But just donít take the chance, they are so many cemicals uesd these days. If you are not sure of the source...you might get ur beardie sick.
