 Underweight female who just clutched

Ok...first thing I want to say is that it wasnt me that put her with the male...it was the petshop I baught her from. It was more in the form of a rescue. She was kept in a small terarium (more suited for one or two babies) with another male. She is a little over 8 months old. I havent even weighed her...I just baught her and braught her home, gave her sum salad and sum crix and put her in a vivarium. She had laid 19 eggs on monday...so I am scared another clutch is on the way...and I need to get her into some kinda of better shape so she will survive. Any idea what I can feed her to help her get everything up. I have gutloaded crix (I use mainly catfood, dehydrated milk and corn flower) and salad. I do use calcium and multivitamin suppliments as well. Now, please keep it mind that no petstore here keeps waxworms and neither any superworms. I tend to stay away from mealworms cos they can bite the inside of your beardie and I dont have the time to handfeed her one by one. Pls help, any suggestions would be much appreciated. She is so skinny and so small :(

superworms are the ones that bite, but you can put them in the freezer so they slow em down, most dragons once they get a taste of superworms will know what to do and start biting the heads off first and stuff. A safe size to feed supers would be around 16 inches.

you can simply order the foods online and at a much cheaper price too

do you have a laybox prepared for her?

I would up the calcium for her because it is very stressful.

another clutch may be coming in the next month or so.

also be aware that they can lay eggs with or without a male.

you can feed her silkworms, butterworms, pheonix worms, hornworms.
and can order them online.

i’d gutload crix with veggies and stuff for added nutrients.

for now just feed her and keep offering food until she says shes full.
After egg laying females are usually starved and readily eat as much as they can.

I’ve heard that pinkie mice are good for fattening up gravid females.

Controversial about mice...until no longer controversial I feed silks, raise my own roaches, and crix for the babies. I have superworms for my adults...Take care Beth

You could feed pinkies to fatten her up a little.

Wanted to avoid pinkys...but I dont have the option anymore...took her to the vet yday and he gave an ultrasound...already the new clutch is forming and most of her reserves are gone...so vet said 1 pinky or fuzzy every 3 days along with all the crix she can eat...just hope I can get her to survive her 2nd clutch :(
I HATE petshops

Did the vet give her a calcium shot?? You can call them and ask them for some of that powdered food that you add warm water to, carnivore care, mix it with some powdered calcium and feed her with a syringe every day. That’s an option too. Pinkies are, like Beth said, controversial, and I’ve NEVER heard of anyone giving pinkies every three days, this definitely does not sound like good advice to me, and I would try a different route if I were you. Baby food, chicken, squash, whatever, mixed with herptivite and calcium powder every day would probably be MUCH better for her than pinkies, and I bet it would help her gain healthier weight, rather than the massive amounts of fat from pinkies.

I’ve been trying everything u said PAM...but she keeps losing body fat. Her tummy is quite thick now (still cant feel the eggs), but her skin is draped around her back and ribs...it’s very disturbing TBH. I feed her about 20 crix a day with salad (thought she hardly touches her salad). Dont know abut a calcium shot...but her crickets tend to be white before she eats them :P...all my beardies get lotsa extra calcium...even my crix get fed a calcium and protein rich diet. It’s been round about a month now...how much longer till I should be able to feel the eggs? (I am actually hoping she has reabsorbed them).
