Can anyone help?
Hi this is my first time breeding my beardy. Shes fine and lay 15 eggs this afternoon. The problem is that i Ive took them out, put them in a tub with damp vermiculite, humidity seems fine and the temp in the incubator is at 85. She lay them approx 4 hours ago but a few of them seem to be collapsing already. i was extremely care full when i took them out the lay box as i know rotating or moving them can drowned them. Have i done anything wrong? Thanks Kirsty

Can anyone help? A lot of times first clutches are infertile, you well know if they are within a day they well turn yellowish brown so best bet is to freeze them if they turn that color. Fertile eggs well stay white, what is your humidity and temp at????

Can anyone help? I have to say this...do not give up on them too soon...I don’t care about any humidity reading on some probe...I want you to look at the condensation line on your clear containers that house the eggs...before you assume they are duds...if the humidity is ok...there will be a condensation line along the level of your vermiculite...I suspect that there is no condensation line and the substrate is too dry... the rule is this...if the condensation is above this line there is too much humidity...then you take the lids off and place them on your containers crooked and don’t seal them down...I would add some more water around your eggs with a syringe or eye dropper... I use a syringe of course with no needle...I do not agree that your female’s first clutch is infertile...there is no proof in that...add more water...not directly on the eggs but around them and see what happens... I hope you have a very good hatch rate...let us know how more we can help....Beth

Can anyone help? Again misinformation. Misting the eggs directly if perfectly ok, despite what you are being told. The shell of a dragons eggs is water and gas permeable. Simply put they do absorb water directly through the shell, as well as the exchange of gas from inside to outside the egg. Im not sure how this became so confusing but enough is enough. The ONLY way misting your eggs could hurt them is if they are soaked and sitting in water, instead of a gentile mist, where the eggs would be dry again in 1 to 2 hours

Can anyone help? Bama Beardies-all I am saying is that adding water around the eggs is also ok...I am not misleading people...I think there are more than one way to "skin a cat" so to speak. I never denounced your practice. I never will...Take good care Beth

Can anyone help? It wasn’t you i was referring to. More the source of information leading everyone to believe that misting eggs directly will harm/ kill them. If my own 6000+ eggs hatched are not proof enough, feel free to ask several people who asked for my help and direct misting has actually saved their eggs. Im not saying that adding water around the eggs is bad, but it can lead to the bottom of the eggs staying wet and molding. and misting the egg itself has the added befit of allowing the egg to absorb all the water it needs and still dry in a reasonable amount of time, preventing the blockage of the gas exchange.
