 Youngest age?

What is youngest age that someone sucessfully breeded their beardies? Mine are just under a year old, we’ve had them since they were 4 mts old, been putting them together for visits since we got them in Feb. Great eaters. recently moved them into the same tank with sand, but it has a devider in between (meshlike metal) so they cannot have unsupervised visits! Just few mins ago, I removed the devider and my male (Kamek) ran over to the female (Peach) and bobbed a few, jumped on her back for a few secs, not quite even a minute, and then ran back to his basking log. I put the devider back in and now the female is running around trying to get back to him! Does she want more? Is it ok to let them mate if they want to? It was the plan eventually, he is yellow and she is orange! Pretty hatchlings they will have, but are they ready. I’ve seen him do his head bobbing a few times, and she will bob and sometimes wave back. But this was the first that he has hopped on her back. Do they go in heat like other animals? I’ve read the breeding 101 but I’m still anxious!
Thanks

They should NOT have visits! Even supervised! Your female should have at least been 18 months old before breeding and even then you should have a good reason to breed her. Right now, she needs her calcium and bone growth for herself so she can grow into a healthy adult, it shouldn’t go into producing eggs. Does she have good coloring? Do you know both morphs? Have you seen the parents of both? Are they related?

There are WAY too many bearded dragons already. There is no need to add to the population without good reason.

Also, what kind of sand do you have them on? If she is gravid, you will need to increase her calcium and make sure she is under a good UVB bulb. Use the reptisun 10 tube UVB and rep cal calcium powder every day. What do you feed them? What are the temps? How big is her cage?

They are defently NOT from the same parents, I got them both at seperate times from the same breeder, who own’s both sets of parents, so as far as that goes its fine.
I will keep them sperated from now on. Hope its not too late. It was just seconds though, could that be enough.
As far as temps, lighting, foods, calcium, all is as it should be there.
They have both just recently moved from their 10 gals with papertowels to 55 gal with playsand. Recommended by the breeder.
I was thinking of getting an hampster water bottle for water to keep the sand out of it, so it’s always clean.
Just really want to make sure that she does breed with that one little quickie!

ok a 55 gal is not an ok size to use. They each need there own 40 gallon breeder sized tank (36"x 18" x 15") or larger. And unless your really experienced, loose the sand and get tiles. 2 18"x18" floor tiles will cover a 40 gallon.

i bought the 6 in x 6in tiles at home depot and they fit perfect! you need 18 tiles

just a comment on the age of breeding question....mine bred when they were 12 months, however this was unintentional, it reflects highly on your success rate also. my female laid 16 eggs, 12 fertile, with 10 hatching....

Speaking on the breeding question I think age is very important- 18 months old. But there are some dragons who are 18 months old that don’t fit the weight requirement...I believe wholeheartedly that a breeding female should be at the least 350 grams. I would prefer 400 grams but have no proof...just experince. I think when they are younger in age it will take a toll on your female’s body and lessen her life... Just my opinion...Take good care, Beth
