HELP!!! I dont know what to do....

I resque’d a female last night from a owner that could not take care of them. I put her in my males tank, and thought they were fighting. SO, I took her back out and put her in her own tank again. Shortly after that, my male went to the bathroom. It looked WIERD to me! I picked him up... and thought her had a piece of poop stuck in his little hole. I tried pulling it (kinda gently) and it seemd attached. I took him down to the pet store.. and come to find out it was his YOU KNOW WHAT. I guess he got VERY excited and the aggressive behavior was not in a bad way. Now his little thing is stuck out. :( HELP!! I dont know what to do. I feel so HORRIBLE I cant believe! I have been soaking him for 20-25 minutes and then putting some vasoline on it. Then in a box with a towel... so that no walnut shell gets in his ouchie. I clipped his basketing light to the box for heat.
Is there ANYTHING else I can do?? I do not have 200.00 for a vet visit, but I am so scardf or my boy. He is about 6 or so now.
Please , please, please.. any advice is VERY welcome!
Thank you very much!

Ok. I am not a vet so please get other opinions before trying this.

My female had a prolapse when she laid her first clutch, this is when part of the internal organs are kind of stuck outside, looks like a bubble with veins and stuff. I had to soak her in sugar and warm water, equal parts and that made it contract and go back in. It actually worked very quickly.

If it’s his "thingy" that’s stuck out then I’m not sure this will work, but if he in fact has a prolapse it might work for him. I was advised that if it did not go back in from the sugarwater, then seek a vets help.

I definitely understand the $$ issue with going to a vet...my funds are limited too......so best of luck I hope this works for you.

HELP!!! I dont know what to do....

Thank you! I just got the sugar water idea this morning (happened yesterday) and it made it fall off. I am sure that is better then having it stuck isnt it? It did work REALLY fast. I soaked him twice yesterday for 20-25 minutes... and about 20 minutes after he was in sugar water I go to take him out, and it was all off. OMG -- I wish I would have gotten a respnse from all you educated bearded people yesterday. :( I feel so bad for him.
SHould I not put him back in with the female now? I had NO intentions of breeding them, I just wanted him to have a mate. I would welcome babies with open arms....but wasnt my plan. Would he ever be able to have babies or even just the act with her?
I have had him for years and just got a 8 week old sandfire, but when it comes to the ’mating’ aspect... WOW... im dumb! LOL
Again, thank you for the help!

HELP!!! I dont know what to do....

hi
glad he is feeling better lol.

if you are not prepared to over breed her i would house them seperatley.

once they mate they retain sperm and can lay a clutch of eggs(between15 and 50) every 3 to 4 weeks for up to a year!!!!! poor little girls. it will take a lot out of her.

the eggs need incubated and housed no more than 5 to a tank. seperate uv bulbs heat lamps and basking spots for each tank. spare tanks in case you get a grumy git or a sick baby.

then when they get going on food they can eat up to 100 bugs each in a sitting. our record was 132 bugs for 1 dragon, my daughter did the counting haha.

i don’t want to put you off but it is an enormous undertaking.

good luck whatever you decide,
cath

HELP!!! I dont know what to do....

baby beardies do take over the household, haha. but they are worth the hassle.

i’m not sure if it would be advisable to let him try.

i remember reading a thread on here about a boy with the same problem. they got advice from their vet but i can’t remember clearly if they could breed or even who posted the thread.

i’m sure somone will know the answer though.

sorry not to be much help,

cath

HELP!!! I dont know what to do....

yeah, actually... I knew if would fall off if it did not go back in. They store told me that. I am not possitive it is gental for sure.... cause I am not knowledgeable in that area. I just know ’something’ came off. I still have it... lol... should I get a vets oppinion? I really dont have the money to take him to the vet and spend 200.00 to make sure. He seems ok now? After that one sugar water bath... it is a thousand times better! It was like magic.
What does sugar do to make it so effective? Man, I can only think... if I would have known the sugar trick yesterday... maybe it would have gone back in. :(

Thank you cath,
Any kind of info does help. I feel so bad about my baby. I hope I personally did not make things worse! I thought I was tring to help. He seems fine now? I just am kinda confused rather I should ever put him back in with the female now?
I am going to remove the walnut shell before he ever goes back in to his tank now. I am scard about that stuff now. Just to know what it can do if he swallows it. :(

Sounds like he should be fine, but it isn’t a bad idea to see a vet anyway in case it is possible for it to become infected.

Do NOT put him back in with the female. Bearded dragons are solitary animals and don’t particularly appreciate each other’s company. Males are very dominant and will be aggressive towards other lizards in their territory. Best to keep them separately (and remove the walnut shell). Make sure to get a separate UVB bulb and heat lamp for the female asap if you haven’t already.

Good luck!
