 Baby question

Hey, I had a baby that managed to get missed when I dug up the eggs. I got a surprise when I had to get some dirt out of the bin for some crickets to lay in and there was a baby in the bucket.

So basically I believe that the baby was in the bin in a dark laundry room for almost 2 weeks, all of the others had hatched 2 wks before.

Well anyway, he was thin. It took probably about another week before he started eating, and at that it was maybe 1 roach nymph every couple of days. He was given natural sun light, kept warm, fresh water, warm water soaks, misting, veggies (which I have yet to actually see him eat). And he does have regular bms and they are normal.

He is now almost 2 months old and is still very small with extremely skinny legs and a hump in his back around his pelvis. He is eating his roaches on a much more regular basis and he is now inside because of the weather.

Has this happened to any of you? And if so is there anything else that I could possibly do to get the little guy to eat more or grow? And what about that hump in his back?

Any info would be great.

I will try to get a pic of him up, but the screen is out on the camera so it is a little difficult.

Thanks

Sounds like he has a deformity. That might explain why he is not growing as fast as the others too. Just keep doing what you are doing! If he is meant to live, he will. I had one hatch a couple of years ago with bad deformities. She is still with us, even though we have to hand feed her. My daughter loves her and carries her all over the house.

 Baby question

Hey,

The bump on the back could mean MBD. How about dusting? If he is not getting the calcium to metabolize with the sun....or getting the calcium but not the sun/UVB....then he will not metabolize the calcium and place it in his bones.

Get a plain calcium to dust on his food. He will need a uv bulb to metabolize it.

How is he getting around/can he move normally?

I agree with Edel, probably MBD as the little guy was in a closet and unable to get any sun or light at a very crucial time. Sadly these things happen. But I would keep on giving him calcium and of course make sure that he has access to UV and heat. (108-110 is a good temp for a babe on the warm side).Just do your best to give him some TLC and see how he progresses. He may be just fine and deal with any challenges that he may face. These guys are very resilient! We will all keep our fingers and toes crossed for your special baby... Joan2

I disagree. MBD will not happen that fast. It takes time. I raise all of my dragons with ZERO UVB and they are just fine. Try to post a picture.

I was thinking MBD but I am just not totally sure. He does get dusted roaches, from day 1. I will try for pics. wish me luck with the camera!

Ok here it goes. I do find it interesting that I can take decent pictures when the screen is busted

compared to clutch mate

Tell me what you think.

 Baby question

He looks pretty good in the pics! I think it stands to reason, that under the circumstances surrounding his hatch, that he would be a little smaller than his siblings. My initial thoughts were that it couldn’t be MBD either, but since it was a baby and no light at all maybe. Looking at him I tend to agree that that is not what he has. Well it will be intersting to see how he does now! Joan2
