 Is this normal?

hey
we got a new beardie yesterday, not sure how old he is but hes about 20 centimeters long so im guessing about 2 or 3 months old , were just not sure what kind of appitite he should have hes had one cricket since yesterday and i put some carrot in yesterday and today ive put some apple so we can see what he likes but since hes still small i would have thought he d have a verry big apitite, and you can see hes been eating well because because he dosent look underfed and he looks pretty heathy and alert , but then he is getting used to a new home but yea, what should he be eating like?
thanks

He may not eat much for the first few days as he is getting adjusted. You should feed him all the crickets he wants in a 10 minute period at least twice a day. Carrot and apple are not really good staple foods. Feed mustard or turnip greens and grated winter squash i.e. butternut or acorn squash. The summer squashes (yellow and zucchini) will work if you can’t get winter, but are not as nutritious. I am sure that you have done your homework and know about proper lighting, temps etc. Good luck and enjoy him they are fun.

I would agree... Stay away from the Kale. Sounds like your lil one is just settling in. Some are all comfy and happy right away, but most are quiet for the first few. Hang in there. Before you know it, the little one will be eating you outta house and home!!! Joan2

Hey,

Congratulations.....he is a Cute little guy.

Yes, kale and spinach are high in oxilates, which bind (attaches itself to the calcium flushing it out of the body without absoption) calcium. However, they only bind the calcium containd in each....so kale binds the calcium contained in the kale and spinach binds the calcium contained in spinach. Therefore, if you feed these as a combination with other greens, such as mustards/endive/escarole, he will get the calcium from these other veggies. The trick is to get as balanced and with as much variety as possible.

Edel
