New Brown Basilisks!?!And a Few Questions!?!

I just got a new brown basilisk today and I have a few questions...... He/she is very flighty, but so pretty! When I first put him/her in the tank, he/she went straight for the water and drank and swam around, which I think is a good sign. Then he/she sat on a branch and looked around, watched the worms for a bit and then went up the log and went to sleep!

I have him/her in a custom tank that we built that is 48"x32"24". I have a 100 watt day glow bulb and a 5.0 UVB repti glow bulb. Their are lots of plants (live and fake) five or six branches, two vines and a large pool. I put some medium crickets in there for him/her, as well as some meal worms.

First, what should their night time temps be? It is sitting around 72 degrees at night right now, is that alright or do I need a night glow bulb too?

Second, other than their crests is there any other way to tell their gender? Are they like sexing other lizards? Example: the shape of the tall, the V/valley, femoral pores... I will try to post a pic soon to see if anyone can sex him/her for me.

Lastly, if anyone can tell me if I have over looked anything or if I need to change anything it would be greatly appreciated.

I got some pics of him/her now...... Sorry some of them are a bit fuzzy.

He/she is so skittish that even when you walk by his/her tank he/she runs all over the place, but at the same time I can reach right in and pick him/her up and he/she hardly cares!! He/she is 16 inches in total length. Does anyone know how old approximately that would make him/her? So, if anyone can help me sex him/her and answer my questions it would be wonderful, thanks:)

16 inches long is definitely sex-able, and without the presence of a substantial nuchal crest he/she is most likely a female. she is really chubby too, almost looks like shes gravid haha. just watch how much ur feeding her.

Really, she doesnít look chubby to me..... She doesnít eat a lot and I can get her to eat anything but crickets, she just wonít touch it!! I have tried meal worms, butter worms and wax worms..... But she wonít eat them! But she loves her crickets..... I give her like a dozen every two-three days, unless there are still some in there. And I highly doubt she is gravid, she was in the store with Water Dragons only... So, if she is gravid it could be interesting:)

Another Question, do the females not get nearly as big as the males? The pet store told me they should get 24-30 inches, Is that true?

So the males get 24-30 inches? How big do the females get then?

Actually males can grow up to 3 feet. The 24-30 inches is about how long a female will get. Although 30 inches would be a very long female indeed.

New Brown Basilisks!?!And a Few Questions!?!

I feed both my emeralds house Geckos (favorite so far), Anoles, pinkey mice (2nd favorite), and any thing else that just so happens to be small enough for them to eat (Lots of worms and crickets). They seem to like to snack on veggies occasionally also. I found that they need a huge variety to keep them interested. The only thing they havenít tried to eat are the green tree frogs. The enclosure I have them in is 6ft tall and 5 ft wide. Itís a very huge cage measured at about 320sq ft total. Like everyone has said. The bigger the enclosure the better. My pair are both very active hunters. All I have to do is put the selected meal anywhere in the cage and their toast. Still considered juviniles yet they have no problems eating any of the above food. My female and male are about the same age and I watched the female almost double her growth compared to the male. I found this was the easiest early way to distiguish the two. The females will tend to be a bit more skittish also. Hope this was helpful.
