 Friend has a pastel bp with IBD...

She is putting him to sleep tomorrow :( The sad thing is that the snake I sold he, Mogley, she was trying to get them to breed right beforehe started showing symptoms!!! grr aywho, That isn’t really the thing here.

She breeds rats. Shye is now big enough to take small rats. My friend’s rats are not in the same room, I believe on a whole other level in the house she lives in. Do you think it would be safe to get rats from her or no? I will have them killed and frozen before I feed them to Shye, I do not feed live.

How does she know it’s IBD? Has it been around a boa in the last month? Is she getting a necropsy done on it as well to be sure?

How long has she had this animal?

And no - if it’s IBD, I wouldn’t bring ANYTHING from her home into yours.

She got the snake in late july (NO QT - I thought she knew better) and her vet said he probably acquired it before she bought the snake. he is being euthanized and necropsied tomorrow. Her vet says that he is pretty positive that it is IBD. Her snake’s neck has no muscular strenght and it just hangs limp. He doesn’t eat, drink, and cannot right himself if flipped upside down.

I don’t know if your friend’s plans are to breed one day - but sadly, this can wipe her out. I’d recommend that she throw anything that’s even touched this snake out. I also would caution against allowing her into your home and near your collection for right now, since we don’t know for sure how this is transmitted. I’m sure she’ll understand.

My thoughts will be with her. Please keep us updated!

lol sorry, she doesn’t come over. She lives nearby and have met and talked a few times in person but we only really talk thru RG now.

Yes, she is trying to breed her bps this season.

It’s not just simply an illness passed on because of Boas and can quite easily be passed between pythons, but the gist is that physical contact is the way it’s passed on.

Moral of the story is to buy from respected reputable breeders, quaratine and good personal and animal hygiene. Keeping boas and pythons in the same setup is a NO NO. Housing them individually in the same room is acceptable after quarantine.

I know who you are talking about, I believe her username is ceytd. I gave her advice saying to quarantine him and to monitor her others for any symptoms. And if possible take the others to the vet. SHe neglected to tell me about her trying to still breed them and that she had red tail boas. I feel your fustration!

Do you have an exact chronology?

Whee did she get the snake begining of July end of July?

When did she pair her snake?

Are the others showing symptoms?
