 I’m a schmuck. Help?

Hello everybody. I have a confession and a question.

I am a schmuck. I left for 6 days with Camille in her tank as usual, and came back and picked her up to notice that her belly is pink all the way down. I looked in her warm-side hide to find that, sure enough, she had settled down in the hide, pushing the substrate aside and revealing the (hot) glass underneath. The hide is a fine temperature as long as it has the cushion of substrate underneath. I feel really bad, but don’t know how to fix the problem - both how to take care of her burn and how to prevent the same thing happening again. Got any ideas?

Actually yeah...

Try thermal tape. Should be available from lowes or home depot, small roll.. adhesive roll and you cut it. it should insulate the snake from the glass while letting the warmth through.

And you are sure she is not in shed?

I only turn up my UTH enough for just the glass to become the right temp, becausemy bps like to puch away the substrate.

Yea the belly turns pink when going into shed. Google ballpython shedding process.

Yeah, maybe that’s it. When I first took her out I thought she was shedding - her skin and eyes look dull- but then I saw the pink and just panicked. I’ll probably do the thermal tape thing, too, though, just in case - the glass did feel quite hot to me.

THERMOSTAT

The ONLY way to maintain proper temps and avoid over heating (which could burn your snake, break your tank or start a fire) is by buying a REALIABLE thermostat!
