Oh no he’s still got mites !
i had sprayed them with a mite remover and i thoroughly cleaned the vivs and brought all new gear for them. i kept them from there new tanks for about two weeks so i could constantly spray the snakes and scrub my tank every day. Now 1 month later there back in the water, they got mites AGAIN, (we rekon it is newly hatched mite eggs) Is it possible to just keep letting them soak in water while cleaning the viv? will this soaking method eradicate the mites? the guy at the pet store said it is really difficult to get rid of them. What is your takes on eradicating mites without using all these chemicals? |

You can purchase it at http://www.entirelypets.com. You treat the enclosure not the snake. One treatment lasts 30 days and kills both mites and their eggs. It’s also nice to spray in your doorways, bugs don’t make it more than a few inches inside your house before dying (just a little tip). Most all of the top breeders have Provent-A-Mite on hand and use it as preventative maintenance when bringing in new animals into their collection. I always treat the enclosures of any newly aquired animals and I’ve not had any mite problems, even when bringing in animals surrendered at a pet store that I know has mites. Of course these animals are also strictly quarantined. |

I only had mite once (BP from a pet store) used Provent-A-Mite never had a problem again. I also use it in prevention every time a new BP comes in I treat his enclosure and the rest of the collection to be safe. |

Quote: And for the snakes you can soak them in a tank with water. let them say in there for a couple hours, just enough water so it will help drown the mites. then you can treat them. I was told to use Nix FOR KIDS,( it is for their head lice but it is diluted enough not to harm your snakes) you can spray all over your enclosure and your snake to treat for mites. It worked great!! The guy i bought my snakes from treated his whole collection with. Good luck!
I would not recommend the use a homemade brew, as the main ingredients are often products that have not been tested for use with reptiles and that could cause nervous disorders and/or death. |

Recommended a home made brew to someone that is not experienced with it, could cause the life of their snake and I will not be responsible for that. This is why recommended a product that has been FDA approved for use with reptiles, of course it still imply that the person follow the instructions closely. Now do people use home made brew yes, some very experienced keeper do, so do some Zoo keeper. Usually those people have done so for years. Now should it be recommended that has no experience in home brew mix: ABSOLUTELY NO |

I understand the part about not being tested on reptiles, but I’m not clear on what you mean by "homemade brew". |

Some people use those very successfully however I would not recommend it to someone that has no experience with those I would not use it myself as those product have not been designed for use with reptiles and long term effect are not known, which is not the case with PAM that is FDA approved for use with reptiles and has undergone 12 years of researches. Many breeders use PAM and it last the long way, if you practice strict quarantine procedures and use PAM on new addition there is very little chances you will have a infestation and your can will last you a long time. Many people use those homemade brew to cut cost just not worth it to me. |
