 My Anole is dying help!

My Green Anole won’t eat. He’s in a 10 gallon tank, hydrometer 99 and temperature is 75. I had to purchase a heating pad for the tank because it wouldn’t keep temp high enough. He’s eaten, worms now he won’t eat worms, he won’t eat crickets, won’t eat small beetles. I’ve had to force feed him twice and he’s not eating now. He’s skinny and looks close to death. I use Moss and coconut husk.

I’m afraid I can’t help but am experiencing the same thing with my green anole & saw your posting. I don’t know how to post to this forum (where do you do that)? Sorry for jumping on yours but I’m desperate.

I force feed him repta boost but this will be the second time. I put was worms in he hasn’t touched them, I sprinkled them with calcium. I took the two out put new was worms still nothing, I did however raise the temperature in his tank, he’s out more. That’s all I have for now.

I’ll reply after my appointment, but don’t feed him anything if he’s skinny. He’s dehydrated, which will get worse if he eats because the digestion process takes moisture from the body. If he doesn’t drink water, use a dropper to put a small drop on his nostrils, he will suck it in that way. He sounds like he needs fluids more than food at the moment.

Okay, pick up some Pedialyte or similar baby hydration drink from WalMart and attempt giving that by the nostril route I mentioned in my last post. Hold off on anything with a hard shell, like mealworms or crickets that have not recently molted, and only offer soft foods like mashed banana or chewed up carrots. I’d avoid force-feeding for now as it stresses them out. If your anole is alert, you could try dabbing a little of the food on her nose and see if she licks it off to clean herself. Also, you can warm the Pedialyte just slightly warmer than room temp (it’s 85 here in Hawaii) and letting her soak in it up to her forarms. Be careful not to submerse her or get water in her ear canals because infection could result.

He drinks water, I raised the temperature. He’s out more. He’s having issues shedding like it’s not complete. He was very lethargic but after I forced fed him he is doing better. I will try mashed bananas but isn’t that temporary? He is used to me so he doesn’t really panic when I get him out of the cage to feed him.

Increasing the temps will help his immune system and feeding him banana along with vitamin powder will help with the shedding. They eat fruits in the wild depending on where they live, so banana as pat of his permanent diet wouldn’t be a bad thing-- just be sure to feed him bugs too, for the protein. Keep his humidity a little higher to aid with shedding and make sure he stays hydrated. Good luck!
