Anoles’ tank not getting warm enough

I have 3 anoles, they stay in a 3 gal tank together and are getting on fine. I have a light, but the thermometer says that the tank is at 20 F! My mom says that it is not correct, and our house is not that cold. I keep their light on all day and two of my anoles are almost always green. The other is a brown anole so I understand that he is always gonna be brown. Thx for the help and don’t go asking me for the watts in the bulb or the kind cause I don’t know.

That tank is too small for 3 let alone 1 upgrage to a 20 gal because you can’t even set up proper temps in such a cage. I’m assuming you have a stick on thermometer get a digital one there like $10-12. Keeping the lights on all day is extremely stressful to them not to mention your not giving a day/night cycle. When you get the right thermometer see if the temps improve if not get a higher watt bulb like a 60W.

I agree, I have three in the equivalent of a 30 gallon tank, and before I had enough basking areas and vegetation in there, they were not getting along. I doubt your tank is getting as cold as the thermometer is reading, maybe that’s Celcius or humidity levels, or it’s stuck to an area of the tank that is getting cold air on it for whatever reason. Speaking of, where is your tank situated in your room? I had one close to a ceiling fan in my living room, and that was enough to drop the temps low enough to slow down digestion. For lighting, you may want to hit up garage sales and score one of those "light trees"-- it’s basically a post with three or more bulb housings on it. Depending how you orient your cage, you can get a decent amount of heat in there and some UVB as well.

I’m might have a 30 gal tank, I’m not sure. But my anole r doing fine in the tank they have so I’m not changing it. It is on a shelf by a window and the thermometer is in the right corner of the tank. My mom says that I worry to much and that the light is fine. So , I don’t know what to do. Thx anyway!

Never place a cage by a window and sorry to say I feel bad for 3 lizards in that tank that’s crazy the lowest I use is a 10gal to quarantine baby snakes and lizards 20-40 for their first 6 months. I had over 10 anoles in a 260gal tall and they we’re happy because they all had room to stretch about. If you can’t provide for the animal correctly then you don’t need it, you think their okay/happy but their like damn its cramped in here.

Okay I’m sorry I understand I didn’t mean to sound rude or mean its just its too small. Try a 10 gal tall where I live their like $17-20 something dollars at petland discounts of try craigslist, eBay,wallapop etc...just sites/apps where you can find things cheaper in your area. I got a 40&55&75 and 90 gal from wallapop. Also try explaining to your mom they need a bigger tank.

sigh** a happy reptile is a reptile living in the right conditions which they aren’t, to keep them warmer you need a higher watt basking bulb but that’s impossible in such an enclosure because they won’t be able to thermoregulate their body temps.

If you’re in Hawaii, I will give you one of my old tanks. You can also build one too-- cold isn’t an issue here, so I made a simple wooden frame with construction mesh stapled to the frame. It isn’t fancy, but I understood that my anoles needed the space. To make the most of the space you have, you could have your anoles apartment oriented vertically-- that way they have plenty of climbing space, but the actual footprint of the terrarium is small. Also, if Frank is dark all the time, he may not be happy with one of his tank mates-- I noticed my males got that way when they were in close proximity to each other.

I don’t live in Hawaii and, my males’ name is not Frank, it’s Fred. Thx, though.

Ah, sorry about the name mixup-- one of my males is named Frank Morris, after the Alcatraz escapee-- he was always finding ways to get out of his tank! Anyways, you can easily build a new terrarium from most anything-- it doesn’t have to be a store-bought specialty item. Save your money for the important stuff, like UVB lighting. Heck, you could buy a huge clear plastic storage bin from WalMart, and that would do the job as long as your babies have decent lighting and places to hide and bask. It’s a tough sell to parents when it comes to reptile things, everything from pet shops are expensive, and most parents can’t understand why a "cheap" anole requires just as much care and equipment as something much more expensive.

I think you should use a cricket cage or a jar for the smallest one until then....… It worked for me...
