Making the best of a bad situation or making it worse?

Right, i’m going away for 4 days and theres no one i can ask to spray the lizards - which is ok cos i’ve got a dripper on order to make sure there’s moving water for them and i’ll be turning the big heat mat off under the tank and putting the smaller one at the back of the tank on (so they dont get too hot and need extra water) - this is what i do over winter when i go visiting relatives over xmas and seems to work ok in the short term.

the only problem i have is Jormangand the long tailed skink (to be honest some people call them grass lizards ,some long tails so i cant find any really sure fire answers as to how to care for him, but he seems healthy and is pretty active). The problem being his tank he’s in does not have running water.
do you reckon putting him with the anoles for a few days would be ok?
he’s spent time living with them before when his tank got cracked and i had to find somewhere to house him for a time (i figured with the size of the anole tank it’d be ok), they generally ignored each other and nothing bad came of it - my main worry - and this is whats prompted me to put Jorman into a temporary tank with probably inadequate lighting/heating and no running water for now (i’m working on that) is that the anoles have babies running around - i’m not worried about him eating them - he’s just their crazy uncle - i worry cos Ra (bossy female anole) is being really aggressive recently and i’m worried she might attack/injure him when i’m not there.

i know housing mixed species is generally looked down on,but when he’s been in there they’ve been blissfully unaware of each other and no-one has suffered a loss of appetite, so i reckon they both must have similar needs, so im not worried about that side of it, but do you think i need to worry about him getting injured while i’m away, or do the risks of him getting cold/dehydrated outweigh this??
If the worst happens and he gets hurt while i’m around then at least i can do something about it!

*damned lizards...*

Housing mixed species is generally looked down on, for many many reasons.

Some reptiles have different environmental needs, some carry parasites with an immunity (that other reptiles are not immune to), and generally housing different species unless they have a LOT of room (and I’m not talking about a 30 gal) will cause stress. You don’t want to come home to find your grass lizard dead because your anole didn’t allow him to eat, or something. You can’t buy a water spraying device for his cage too?

he’s been in with them before and seemed to be eating ok, and like i said they seemed to be pretty oblivious to each other’s existence!
the anoles are in a 70-ish gallon tank, i’d keep him in there on a permanent basis if i wasnt worried about him getting attacked. (although anoles dont have very sharp teeth and i think Jorman wouldn’t notice - he’ll stare at food and then make a move to catch it after its moved - thats the level of his intelligence!

Anoles don’t need sharp teeth to kill other lizards.

Reptiles are reptiles, they do what they have to in order to survive. Most are not social creatures and are territorial. A dominant anole can prevent another lizard from eating/drinking, for example. Atrax can tell you more.

i guess. they seem more aggressive towards one another than they ever have been to Jorman. Because he’s so rough skinned they tend to rub against him to she rather than the multitude of rough trees i have!

I know its probably the wrong thing to do, but until i find a better enclosure for Jorman where he his lit and kept warm in the way he should be, he’s going to have to live with the anoles where they tend to ignore him for the most part. if i saw anything about his or their behavior that suggested either was getting ill he’d be out of there in a flash, or the minute he showed violence towards them he’d be out of there.

...While you’re away for four days?

Do what you’d like. There’s plenty of risk involved, but they’re your pets.
