 I wonder why I bother . . .

The posts recently have gotten completely out of hand. Not only is the content of many suspect, but some also violate posting etiquette and forum rules. There are several different categories:

1) Those that post in an attempt to justify a dangerous practice that they are already using (and don’t really intend to change). An example of which is those who want to keep multiple species in a small enclosure. Besides the obvious that different species often require different environmental conditions, there is also the fact that they have different parasite loads. The post is usually followed months later with a post that their Anole has died. I wonder why?
2) Those who are too bone-idle lazy to do even rudimentary research into the care of Anoles. The result is that they have NO IDEA of the proper enclosure size, temperatures, and other BASIC requirements for the proper housing of one (or more) Anoles.
3) Those that have an over-romanticized view of Anoles. Anoles DO NOT form relationships with other Anoles and certainly not with humans. They don’t get depressed when their enclosure mate dies. Most likely is that they are being affected by the same conditions or disease that caused the demise of the first one. If you put your hand/arm in the enclosure, they will run up it for a) warmth, or b) because it is like a tree branch and gives them a better vantage point. Likewise, they choose the same basking/sleeping area because it is the best available not because they enjoy each other’s company. If you provide multiple suitable basking areas, they will disperse to more than one.
4) Those who think it cute to post with abbreviations or are “spelling challenged”. The Webmaster was gracious enough to include a spell check function. Please use it. Likewise, posting in all capital letters is not appropriate.
5) Hi-jacking threads. Not only is this a violation of the rules regarding posts, but it also makes it impossible to make any meaning of the original thread. As the rules state, if you are going to change the subject, start another thread. (example: What does the name of your Anole have to do with the original question of whether or not Anoles can be sunburned).

These are the reasons that I have chosen not to answer the majority of questions publicly. The forum has become extremely chaotic lately with the influx inappropriate posts and the hijacking of valid threads. For those reasons, I have elected to answer selected questions by private message. Those questions that fit into the above categories will simply not be answered at all!

My thoughts exactly. Does anyone even remember what it was like before he joined the forums? I wasn’t here then, but if you Google or search... it’s all people giving the worst advice on anole care. Some of it is quite shocking.

First off all you people that are calling Twilight, and Atrax know-it-alls, good for you, your a complete idiot. You people just sit there and be rude and make fun of them, they’ll leave. What happens when your anoles sick? Atrax’s help is the best. Are you gonnna sit there and watch it get sick, or try and get atrax to help, but he/shes gone(sorry). Your in trouble. And Twilight just trys to help and make sure the forums run the way they were supposed too. So what? Are you gonna make fun of her, becuase shes making sure this is about the anoles, not all you stupid idiots arguing and making rude and dumb comments.

This forum is falling apart.


This is about our anoles, not anything else, keep it about the anoles.

Why even post this Atrax? You knew when you did there was going to be some kid making smart remarks on here. I don’t agree with everything you said but I do agree with some of it and the reason is because there are too many kids on here. No offense but it also doesn’t help that you are rude. That’s why posts have been a little nuts lately. If I were you I’d just ignore the ones you don’t want to reply too. That’s what I do. Maybe bump a caresheet or answer a post if you can tell the person really cares about their anole. All the other ridiculous stuff just ignore and people will get the point and you don’t have to worry about it. No reason for all this drama. I sat here and watched one thread(the one where me and you get into it) where people started making comments about it. I left it alone. Even though people were defending me I could see where it was going and I choose to stay out of it. If you do the same then the thread(any thread) will die down and people will stop talking about it.

I know that when you type it is hard to portray emotion so to make it clear for everyone on here reading this, I do not like or dislike Atrax. I respect that he is knowledgeable about about small anoles species but do not always agree with him because I feel he is close minded. His advice is mostly good advice that helps other newbies on here take care of their anoles. I think that people should respect that he is knowledgeable even though he sometimes comes off as being rude. I’ve learned to dismiss/ignore it. Take the good advice and move on. Be thankful he is helping at all. I hope people do not take what I’m saying as negative in any way, I’m just a very honest, sometimes blunt person:)

Kids have anoles too, but it’s just up to them to try and be mature on these forums, and smart enough to know when to not try to top an expert’s information with complete fabrication that will risk their anole’s health. Unfortunately, not all kids are smart enough to do this.

The caresheet has not been bumped by him because these new know-it-all kids feel they don’t need him, and if they don’t need him, they don’t need his caresheet--let’s see how well they do without it. If it were up to him, the caresheet would be gone, but the Webmaster Doug asked that it be left intact, since even he knows how helpful the caresheet has been to all of us.

EXACTLY, so why bring it up? What goes around, comes around--Atrax is a big help. He doesn’t have to be here, but he is, taking time out of his schedule to help people. He doesn’t have to do service with a smile. As long as people are getting the help they need, they should just be happy for it.
