Green Anole not green :( Im new to the anole world and I cant seem to keep an anole alive even im sorry to say... ive had 1 brown and 2 green die. I now have a new green one and it is doing good when I let it run free in my garage. ( It even stays there overnight sometimes) But when I put him in his terrarium, hes almost black! His terrarium is a 10 gal with a 60watt All Living Things Basking bulb. I have most of the screen cage covered with plastic to trap in the moisture so it stays humid but it seemed to get too hot so I took some off. Any ideas how to get my anole happy and green without taking it out of my terrarium??

Green Anole not green :( Well I think you should start by reading the caresheet to make sure your enclosure is set up just right. If you’re doing everything right you shouldn’t need any plastic wrap. You don’t need the special basking bulb, just a regular 60 watt would do fine. Since you already have it, you might as well keep it, but just so you know for the next time it burns out that you can use a regular bulb. You also need a 5.0 UVB light that you can purchase at pet stores. For the rest of the information you need, read Atrax’s caresheet.
Also, the color of the anole does not always indicate if it is ’happy’ or not. If it has dark spots behind it’s eyes, these do indicate stress, but color can not always determine this.

Green Anole not green :( Actually, a certain color of an anole CAN indicate stress. An anole can turn green or light brown for multiple reasons (basking, environment, temperature) but not always for reasons we can pinpoint. Neither of these colors indicate stress. Several anoles change from one color to another; if you wanted a lizard that would be green all the time, you’ve picked the wrong kind of lizard.
Now as mentioned, unless there are postorbital (dark) spots behind the eyes OR if the anole turns a very dark brown or almost black, such as in your anole’s case, this does mean stress. Prolonged stress can be a health hazard for your anole. As was mentioned, read Atrax’s Caresheet, because it sounds like you don’t have the proper setup for your anole.
