Here are a couple of pictures of my 40-gallon. It is occupied by a pair of Green Anoles. The black object on the right is a Habba-Mist mister/sprayer. The homemade lightbar has three (3) 60-Watt incandescent light bulbs and a computer muffin fan (set to exhaust air from the enclosure) for ventilation. In front of the heating lights are two fluorescent fixtures. The one in the middle of the enclosure houses a ReptiSun 5.0% UVB and the one at the front houses a GE Sunshine fluorescent for additional lighting without increasing the heat load.
The white object in the left front of the enclosure is a container for cricket food (powdered rabbit pellets) for those times I have to put more than a 1-day supply of crickets in the enclosure.
The plants include several Crotons (Yellow and green), Diffenbachia (variegated white and green), and a miniature Date Palm (looks like Bamboo).

Have some questions, if that’s alright, about tank setups, and my own setup.

First off, I really like your setup. I thought they needed a lot more leaves, in general though, at least for the female to hide in? Or will they do fine with a few plants and branches?

1. I have my anole’s tank next to my bed, is this bad?

2. The other day I put a cork back in the back of the tank that’s about 2 1/2"-3" thick, as wide as the tank, and nearly reaches the top. It’s not completely flat in the back though, it’s curved, and the anoles can get behind it. There’s enough space that they can’t get trapped (although I’m not sure I like the idea of them getting back there). Behind the tank is a window but I always have the blinds closed. The room is lit up when the sun is out but no actual rays of sunlight get in. When the anoles aren’t behind it, they’re on top of it, or on the other side of it. Is this okay to have in the tank?

3. Do I have too many leaves in mine? I figured since I move around a lot (I do a lot of web site work while sitting in bed) that I’d have a lot of leaves in there, so that they don’t always have to see me. I’d like to see them more, and sometimes I do, but I know there are times when they don’t want to be seen. However, since I put the cork back in, I haven’t added the third plant (a big mess of vines like the ones already in the tank). Does it look too empty on the top, should I put that plant back in?)

The tank is a 30-gallon, and I have a male and female green anole in it. I plan to get a second female in the future.

As long as they have hiding and basking spots, they wil be fine.

1) It doesn’t matter if the enclosure in near your bed.

2) As long as they can’t get trapped, it should be fine. Mine will sometimes sleep between the Habba-Mist and the glass wall.

3) It is always best to err on the side of having too many leaves. Just make sure it isn’t too dense for them to find their prey items. Yours should be fine.

Thank you for the reply, Atrax. I just have one more question. From the front view, are the leaves high enough, or should I be aiming to get them nearer to the top of the tank?

Sorry that the pictures are gone now, I had to delete the latest entries from my image gallery due to some kind of glitch that had effected them. I’m fixing it now. I can repost the front view image in a while if you’d like.

The height of the foliage doesn’t matter as long as they have somewhere to bask.

fisherman125....your enclosure looks nice, but it looks like you dont have UVB lighting, if one of the lamps has a compact fluorescent bulb, i would suggest replacing it with a fluorescent tube light like reptisun or reptiglo 5.0

yeah...if you have UVB on a crested tank give it to ur anoles....cresteds do not need UVB. Also, just to let you know, the compact ones cause blindness, other possible eye problems, and are generally the same price as the tuibe ones.

I don’t know if it is a concern or not but is that aquarium gravel in there too? I would worry they would injest small pieces of that and become impacted.

Atrax I have a question. Where did you get your fan and how do you run it off battery or electrical outlets? I’ve been looking for a way to vent my tank out.

I got a "wall wart" from Wal-Mart for a few $$ and the whole thing is plugged into the timer with the lights Habba-Mist, etc. Nothing is on at night.

Mixing species is dangerous - especially in an enclosure less than 100 gallons in capacity.

They have different environmental needs and each carries a different parasite load. What is innocuous to one maybe fatal to the other. Either in the short-term or long run you are reducing the lifespan of either or both.

Goodness, every time I hear this I keep wishing the owner would be dragged out into the street kicking and screaming and flogged with a wet noodle.

I’m not going to get into the debate of mixing species. But Atrax IS right, it is risky and--bah, forget it. If he wants to risk his lizards’ health over his own selfishness, let him.

BonstaMonsta, if you CARE about your lizards, separate them. Search for some of the past topics here to learn the risks you apparently have NO idea about.
