Well a UVB bulb will harldy raise your temperatures, to raise temperatures get either a basking bulb at your pet store, or a flood light bulb at a hardware store. You do need a UVB though.

Incredible!! You don’t need either a basking bulb or a flood light. Just use a regular 60 Watt light bulb. Adjust the distance and/or the wattage until you get the desired temperatures. Fluorescents do NOT emit enough UVA (light and heat) to make an appreciable difference.

Take my, my 40-gallon for example, it has three 60 watt bulbs suspended across the back and two fluorescents (one ReptiSun 5.0 for UVB) and a GE Sunshine fluorescent (for additional light). The temperatures are spot on. Larger enclosures are easier to regulate than smaller ones since you can create a temperature gradient and maintain basking temperatures at multiple basking spots. Oh yes, I also have a computer "muffin fan" that I got for $1 at a computer junk store to provide air circulation. It exhausts air from the enclosure.

Of course, do everything Atrax suggested for adjusting your temperature.
But also make sure that you do get the UVB bulb if you do not have one. If you need to convince your mom to let you buy the light, tell her that without the light the anole can easily get Metabolic Bone Disease (like osteoporosis in reptiles), which you can easily find more information on by using the search tool on the forum. This disease can easily be fatal to your anole, and the UVB light will prevent it.

I hope you’re not already using the Anole Starter Kit. It’s not a good environment at all. The plastic sides make it hard to have a basking light focused on it, and it’s not as big as a 10-gallon as it claims to be. I was conned into buying one when I first had an anole, but now I just keep it around to hold my anoles in while I clean their tank.

And like Atrax said, you don’t need a fancy kind of bulb for a basking light. Just get a desk lamp, point it toward one side of the tank, and use a regular 60watt like your household already uses.

Here’s your checklist. These aren’t just pleasantries but the bare essentials anoles require.
  • Glass tank
  • Mesh top
  • Desk lamp - to hold basking light - position in one corner face down (not pointing through glass or plastic but mesh top)
  • Basking light (regular 60w or higher) - you’re aiming for 90 F degrees
  • Regular light - for the entire tank, 5.0 UVB fluorescent bulb (not the coil kind, they’re unhealthy for herps)
  • Canopy lamp to hold regular light
  • Fake plants
  • Branches
  • Organic top or potting soil (no perlites, fertilizers, or additives) or Bed-a-Beast substrate
  • 1 thermometer to place on the basking side, at the same level where the anoles usually are
  • 1 thermometer to place on the non-basking side, to regular that temperature
  • 1 hygrometer to monitor the percentage of humidity
  • Feed them crickets that have been gut-loaded (means they’ve been fed with nutritious food before being fed to your anoles)

You should be spraying the anoles about 2-3 times a day, I believe. They lick the droplets off the leaves, and tend to prefer that over learning how to use a water dish. You don’t want to spray the tank a lot. If you’re having trouble keeping humidity in, try spraying the substrate too.

A 60 watt should be fine. If it doesn’t provide a high enough temperature (90 F) then you may have to up it to a 75 or 100 watt. Avoid heat rocks, they have been known to burn the anoles’ bellies.
