 Proper Heating

My tank gets too hot, around 90 degrees, i have a red bulb, a basking light, and a uv light along with an undertank heater. I also have a fountain in the tank to help with the humidity, but I still find the tank getting too hot during the day. I have plenty of places for my two anoles to hangout and keep cool in, but I want to be able to get a proper temp and keep it that way so that i can keep my babies happy & healthy, any suggestions?

Well you need a cool and a warm side, I say the red light is probably not needed, you could try just using it at night maybe. Also I dont think coils are good for reptiles.

thank you for the tip! i’ll see if i can do w/o the red bulb and try making a cool side and a warm side. I may get rid of the coil light, why is it bad for lizards? The box for the basking light says "stimulates natural behavior though uva rays, so i’m guessing i don’t really need the coil lamp if the basking lamp is providing uva rays.

bottom line is you need two lights, an incadescent and a florescent...they don’t need that other stuff.

For my anoles, I have a basking bulb (50watt) and a florescent tube. My warm side gets 86 degrees max and the cool side is about 75ish.

I use eco earth, once in a while when it dries up too much, I’ll mix in some lukewarm water...increases the humidity beautifully.

You need the basking bulb (the regular lightbulb) and a UVB tube- the coil light doesn’t provide equal uvb throughout the whole tank and apparently can cause blindness. The red light and under tank heater should not be needed. If your house gets under 60 degrees at night, that’s when you need the red light, but I can’t imagine anyone’s house being that cold so I’m sure you’ll be fine.
