 Weird question....

Yes, but that would be inbreeding, something I would highly advise AGAINST.

 Weird question....

It happens all the time in the wild in geographically restricted populations (like islands, for example). It is not generally a problem unless there is some genetic defect in the original pair. In fact, to develop a specific trait like color, breeding the offspring back to the parent will produce a higher percentage of the desired trait.

I am conducting a breeding experiment right now with a yellow morph male. Almost all of his offspring thus far appear to be colored normally. However, they carry the trait for yellow coloration. By crossing a female hatchling back to him, I should get 50% or more specimens with yellow color. Hopefully, after a couple of generations, I will have large enough breeding pool that there will be no risk at all.

 Weird question....

I am aware of this Bob. Remember you offered to give me one of your offspring should one of them carry the color mutation/morph?? I am glad to hear the amount of success you have had so far with all of your hatchlings. I understand that sometimes inbreeding is a necessity to obtain a certain trait, but over generations the constant inbreeding can become quite a dilemma as defects and other deformities and health concerns can arise from the constant inbreeding cycle. That is why for the most part I am against it except in extreme circumstances. We are animals as well after all, and imagine if we were forced by some higher being to inbreed with our mother, father, brothers, sisters, cousins, etc. for experimental purposes? So why do it to green anoles? That is my theory. But like I said under certain circumstances I can agree with it, such as the wellbeing of the animals and study of them so we can better manage them and understand them.

If you were to give me one of your yellow morphs I would probably find a lovely mate for it, but not for inbreeding purposes. Owning one would simply be a treasure enough for me. And I would want him/her to live a happy fulfilling life. I wouldn’t inbreed them to make more yellow morphs. I understand why you are doing it, but it just isn’t something I would do. I would own one to give it the proper love and care it deserves since it too deserves a special place on this planet as all animals. Plus I love green anoles and I want to help them live longer healthier lives than they would in the wild. :)
