Making an incubator
Setp 1: Punch a bunch of small holes in the lid for ventilation. Step 2: Fill the deli dish 3/4 full with Vermiculite (you can find it at a gardening center). Vermiculite is sterile and very absorbant. Step 3: Pour water on the Vermiculite until it is moist but not wet or soggy. Step 4: Make a depresssion in the Vermiculite for each of the eggs with your thumb. Step 5: Put the egg(s) in the depression (making sure that you do not turn them from their original position) and cover them lightly with moist Vermiculite. Step 6: Put the lid on the deli dish. Step 7: Make sure that you have a heating source (either a light bulb or Under Tank Heater) to maintain the temperature at a constant 85 degrees and keep the Vermiculite moist to avoid dessicating the egg. The egg(s) should hatch in about 35 days. Then, you can transfer the hatchling(s) to an individual 10-gallon enclosure. They can be fed pinhead Crickets, flightless Fruit Flies, or Leafhoppers. Keep in mind that they may not eat for the first few days if they are still digesting the yolk from their egg. |
