Your Blue beauty is gorgeous. Nice to see her in comparion to the other one, it really shows the difference. But Im interested how a blue phase comes into being. Is it simply by selection process, one like that is found in nature or born and then bred for the colour? Since Ive been researching all possible shades and colours of yellows (that sounds almost like a pun), I realize that simply there seem to be all kinds of shades between white and black (now that sounds very confusing but Im talking in relation to axanthics ha ha) and one could almost pick a few of these and call them to be different phases. I know that with anacondas any morph is rare and valued and that blue one is a beautiful example. Im just trying to understand how it works with establishing the morphs..

She has a very cute face, too, that phase. She looks like yet another sweetie of yours..?

Most unusual color phases you see in captivity can trace their origins back to an anomaly which first occurred in the wild. A "freak" is born in the wild and these abnormally colored or patterned examples of a particular species are captured and put into captivity to become the foundation stock for developing new color morphs. These original imports begin the captive bred bloodline and through selective breeding future generations are produced which hopefully show the desired traits, be it coloration, pattern, or even size or temperament. Anacondas have not been bred in captivity nearly as much as other species so the available morphs are not abundant to say the least and many morphs and bloodlines are still in the early stages of development. The high yellow, high orange, hypo, axanthics, granites, and albino are all in the very early stages of anaconda reproduction when compared to other popular snake species. We are only a generation or two past the foundation stock with most of these "morphs" and in some cases are still working with the foundation stock itself. My "blue phase" is a perfect example. She is a female imported as a new born from Guyana earlier this year. While I know that "blue phase" do show up occasionally, they are not very common and very few, if anyone, is actively producing these animals. So the hopes are to have her serve as foundation stock for the development of this color morph and it will be exciting to see what we get down the road from her and her offspring.

That "Blue Phase" is a stunner. I had actually never seen one before your picture. I know theres somewhere between 2-4 T+ Albino condas out there right now, as well as a handful of Axanthic, but what are the numbers on "Blue Phase"?
