 HELP!

Separated mine into little Tupperware containers (one in each). Used a piece of paper towel for substrate. Juice container cap for water dish. I feed them the smallest crickets I could purchase in the pet store. Crickets looked large, but babies managed them down quite well. Feed a couple times/week (you’ll see the small poop and know when they’re ready to feed again).

 HELP!

I just found a baby alligator lizard 4 days ago in my bathroom. I have done a lot to maintain it since. Though I am not sure how old it is, I can offer some tips and advice for caring for your little ones.

First off, I read online that you should move the babies away from the mother as she may end up eating a few. Also, the babies may refuse to eat until they have shed their skin for the first time. My lizard does best on small pinhead crickets. I just leave them in her cage and she eats about 3 every two days. She is good with maintaining a healthy diet. If your lizards overeat you will probably want to put them into a separate container for feeding and give them 2-5 crickets each every one or two days. Powdering the little crickets may prove slightly difficult so you could buy a spray vitamin and use that. The babies pretty much have the same habitat needs as an adult, make sure that there is enough humidity, lighting, and hiding places. Try not to put anything potentially dangerous in the cage. My lizard kept hiding under a flat piece of wood, which made it difficult to get to her safely. I took it out, and replaced with a large leaf that I tilted diagonally for shade and a log hut (from Petco) Now I feel like I won’t accidentally hurt her when lifting either one. I also made a burrow under her log hut and she loves it. Your lizards may try a bit of digging (mine does) so try looking for soft soil as substrate. While they are little, they are very difficult to pick up. I only hold mine twice a day at most because of that reason. Mine refuses to just walk onto a hand, she’ll even avoid it. The only way to pick her up is by gently pinching her torso and setting her on my hand. She hates being grabbed like that and will squirm, but I think that she will get used to it. I try taking her out in the sun once a day, but it is not necessary. As far as water goes, mine doesn’t drink much but I still set out 2 water bottle caps and place them deep into the dirt so that the tops of them are at ground level. It makes it easier to drink from. I also notice that she will drink droplets that get spread around her cage.

Well that’s pretty much all that I could offer for advice. I hoped some of it helped =]

Ah, yes here is a pic of my lizard (I named her Kaida-means little dragon in Japanese)

 HELP!

You’re welcome =]

I am glad that I cold help. I can’t wait to see the pics! Baby allies are so cute ^_^

I wish that I knew her age... I am guessing maybe a couple weeks old, but who knows.

Cute name! I am thinking that she might be a Northern too. I will know for sure when she grows up =]

I am always glad to help!

Thank you very much, my sister loves the name too =D

Kaida has grown a bit this week, and her scales are also dulling out. I think that she is going to shed soon =]

P.S. I typed this message with only one hand because Kaida fell asleep on my other XD She is like a rock when she sleeps!

Oh, btw I updated how to care for alligator lizards on this post here: Link

I found out that sprayable supplements are a mess. Sorry for not realizing that earlier >_< I organized my info much more nicely now so it is easier to read. Enjoy!
