Alligator Lizard EGGS!
First time i post here. I have really hang out in the Leopard Gecko area, but I’ve recently acquired an Alligator Lizard--i think it’s a southern--and it has just laid eggs. I’ve had the Lizard for about two weeks, and I’ve been feeding it crickets and meal worms. It recently stopped eating so much and i thought it might be sick. today i got back from work and i said to myself ’i haven’t seen Peter (name was chosen when i thought it was a male) for a while, so i moved it’s hide a little, and BAM! Eggs!
Here’s my question; what do i do now?!?!?! Do i remove the eggs, and incubate them separately, or leave them there? what temperature should they incubate at? do i need to change Peter’s diet, now that she just laid eggs?
also, if this is successful and the eggs hatch, would anyone like to adopt one (or more?)
please let me know if you guys can help. thanks!

Alligator Lizard EGGS! get a tupper ware container fill 3/4 the way full with some substrate (dirt) keep it moist but not wet! and place the eggs in there half buried keeping the tops visible and dont turn the eggs upside down place them in the same way you found them and just put the lid on the container i poked a few holes in my lid and usually opened it every day just to look at them and in about 2 months you will have a bunch of little allies running around i place the container on top of my cage about 6 inches away from the heat lamp so it would get to hot or cold if you keep it at room temp then your fine

Alligator Lizard EGGS! Thank you so much! I will do that tonight after work. I didn’t know it takes 2 months for the eggs to hatch; I’m going to be biting nails until the end of august. I think the only issue is going to be getting the temperature right. I live in socal and the weather has either been too cold at some points in the day, or too hot. I heard the temperature has to be at least @ 80 degrees, but ill keep it at room if you say so. If you have any more advice like on how to handle the egss when I pick them up, please let me now--and if anyone else has any advice, I would appreciate it. Thanks a bunch!

Alligator Lizard EGGS! Here’s the update on the Peter’s eggs: temps here have been ranging from 70 to about eighty, and reached 90ish a couple times. 6. Eggs have collapsed of the original 14, which leaves me with 8! It was sad to check up on them and see them all flat like. 2 of the remaining 8 look really good, 4 look okay, and 2 more look pretty bad. I’m still holding on too hope. I got hired @ my local petsmart, so I’m going to buy some more precise equipment soon (digi-therm) and a small 2 gallon tank or maybe a 5 gallon to put incubate in. I have a question; let’s say this is the first time Peter has laid eggs, will she lay again? I have Leopard Geckos, and I’ve heard that once they become gravid, they can lay 2 eggs at a time for a few months. Is that the same with Peter? Should I expect any more? And how do I check if she’s holding anymore eggs?

Alligator Lizard EGGS! Another update on the eggs. Of the eight that were left; remeber I said there were two that weren’t doing so good, and they have officially deflated. So now there are 6 eggs left. 5 look great, one looks okay. I’m getting more and more nervous. I’d be happy if all six hatched, I can’t bare to see anymore deflate/collapse. I’m going to post pics as soon as I figure out how.

Alligator Lizard EGGS! if the eggs are deflating you can try to put a little more moisture in the substrate i heard of a guy whose eggs deflated a little bit and he add more water to the dirt and the eggs went back to normal and all his eggs hatched just a thought,

Alligator Lizard EGGS! look for a dark spot on one end of the eggs. Place that at the top.

Alligator Lizard EGGS! Actually, if the eggs are freshly laid, it might be a light spot. After a couple days, though the developing embryo appears dark.

Alligator Lizard EGGS! Hey, Hunter.
Let me know if you don’t get a good red male by then. Maybe I can get my guy down there for a breeding loan.

Alligator Lizard EGGS!
found a femal(know that now) in the backyard. 1.5 months later acted odd (hid more and did not eat).
3 days later layed eggs. 5 hatched .not sure how many total were layed as I left them in there in the cave with her and i think she may have eaten the dead shells. She stayed in with them for over two months. would move the eggs a little twords end.Came out seldom to eat a cricket or two and if a cricket went in the cave she would eat it. 2.5 months later started acting strange again by not stayin in as much and she looked into the cave from outside a for day or so.could sware i saw the eggs moving. and after a day or two thought... lets take a look. never lifted the cave for the whole time until now but previosly if my hand was around or tried to touch the cave when she was outside she would go at me or scurry into cave.this time she just watched me take the eggs out. i think she either ate a couple or they are still hiding in there somewhere in the wood chips cause there were two empty eggs. i think she instinctualy wanted to leave once eggs started moving , but, could not because she is in the cage. so would eat them if i did not take out. anyway , now have 5 lizard pups !

Alligator Lizard EGGS! that is interesting. How many did it give it birth to ? I think southern’s lay eggs and northern’s give live birth because of temperature ? hum...
