If you are reading these posts and doing most of what you read then your lizard will be healthy. They will feel secure and that may be the best we can do.
Here are a pair of Texas alligator lizards.

The top two are the female and the bottom is the male.

Awsome pics! Do you mind telling me about the red and green ones? Is the green one Abronia? I’ve heard they’re hard to keep, but Ian Reccio at L.A. Zoo is trying to work with those.

I would like to learn how to breed Elgaria, especially some nice looking red ones. Where are yours from?

hey! i would love to own a abronia too but they are too expensive and too hard to find, but the green one in the pic above is acutally not a abronia, i dont own it either i just found that pic from somewhere but it was labeled a shasta alligator lizard, which is just one of the common lizards found in california but i have never seen one with such bright green! ill get back to you later but i know of a site for the mexican abronia alligator lizards maybe you already know about it but ill find it for you later when i get a little time

as for the red one who i named Red! lol, she is the most recent of my allies ive only had her for a couple months, my grandfather found it for me in yorba linda so california, i was really suprised cause i have wanted a red one for a long time and thought they were only found up north, but guess i was wrong, i have never seen a alligator lizard with such bright color!!! except the abronia, whats funny is she is already the most comfortable allie i own and doesnt get botherd by watching her and or getting close, and she also has the biggest appeite i once watched her eat well over ten medium sized crickets in less then ten min. i have seen her with two crickets in her mouth at once! and im also stoked cause she has her full tail and is prob a year or two at the most so she will be with me for a long time and i also will breed her eventualy

are you keeping any allies right now? wondering if the name RedGator has any significane with red alligator lizards lol ??

these litle guys are mine!its the mommy and the babies..you can se..mines a NORTHERN ALLIGATOR LIZARD not a SOUTHERN..i have a feeling yours is a southern so it should be pretty warm andpart dry and humid..if you have a northern..you will need your habitat to be very humid with soil and hiding spots..a typical forestry scene ya know?

Here are my two SALs, Trey and Q (Tres and Qat, since they’re the 3rd and 4th SALs I’ve had) in their current enclosure. They are currently in a 10gal tank with a large piece of grape log and (several smaller pieces for interest) that I got at Home Depot. (Don’t spend $30 on a grape log from somewhere like Petco - this one cost me $4, and it’s vastly superior to anything I found at Petco.) Other than that, I have a base of crushed walnut shells that I bought at Petco. I’ve used organic soil mix from Home Depot, too - just don’t get anything with a chemical fertilizer in it.

I’m looking into a much larger tank for them, and I’ll add some greenery as well. I’m planning a mixed scape, with a cooler green zone and a warmer deserty zone with a couple of small cacti.

Aingo Ataina remember where these lizards climates are... dont provide a habitat they wouldnt normally be on. i dont reccomend using the little gravel sand stuff either as it could cause impaction... cute lizards though :D :D :D :D

that green one is a stunner!
