Just caught alligator lizard not very responsive
i dont see any signs of injury or blood, just the tail is missing. i dont know much about sick lizards... i do work at a local pet store but i have no idea what to do since i specialize in fish. i found it weird because i can hold it and touch it without being bit. should i keep it warm throughout the night since its pretty sick or let it be exposed to normal night at day temperatures and a heat lamp during the day? its around 6" without his tail so i assume it would be around 12" if he had one. tomorrow morning im getting all the supplies for it: tank, light, substrate, decor... etc if it dies ill just get a new reptile but i would really like for it to live. i rinsed it in warm water to get some at the bugs off but i figure ill work on getting it to eat first and be healthy before i treat it it doesnt move, it only struggles a little when i pick it up and i have it sitting under a regular desk light to keep it warm i put a gave it a few drops of raw egg with a q-tip and i few drops of water but i have no clue how much i should force feed it and whats better for it. will it drown or choke from the liquid? here are some pictures and i hope you guys can help me really quickly before i do something wrong. D: thanks before hand for any help.

The tail break also does not look normal, it looks like its rotting on the inside. If you have access to a vet, a visit might help. If you don’t, I’d recommend using a clean razor blade and cutting off the tip of the tail until you can expose some healthy tissue and then apply some antibiotic ointment like neosporin. For the mites, I’d apply some olive or vegetable oil to smother the mites. He’s probably too weak to handle any of the insecticide based products. |
