Do Aligator lizards typically eat other lizards?

We have what seems like thousands of fence lizards or I guess they are also called blue bellies around our house. My granddaughter loves catching them. She had one on her shoulder this morning and it jumped off into some tall weeds and when she went to go retrieve it an aligator lizard had it in its mouth. I was wondering do they eat them or did it kill it because it got in its territory.
Thank you

Alligator lizards are voracious. They’ll eat just about anything they can catch and swallow including other lizards.

Alice put it well. Even though an alligator lizard may not always be able to swallow an adult bluebelly, they still tend to kill them before the size renders in their brains. After all, they are an easy meal since most won’t fight back and most don’t stand a chance against the powerful jaws and teeth of an alli.
