My red=head agama has a dark spot on her lips?! please help.. 
ok.. so i bought a red-head agama, i think its female because of the color but the pet store owner didn’t know for sure.. i had a leopard gecko as a child but i wasn’t that great of a care taker at age twelve ... so im trying to do this one right, i will admit i bought on instinct and did not do my research before hand, funny thing is i went to go get fish.. anywayz i love my red-head agama named "Jager" and i’m worried about her because when i originally brought her home i noticed a dark spot on the front of the mouth, almost like she keeps runnin her face into the glass... she is very skittish when it comes to humans that is until she is in your hands, then she’s gentle and calm.. but picking her up is always a hassle, and reaching into the tank really makes her run, lookin in every corner for a way out... so i still dont know if she keeps bangin her lip or not, one time when i had her out, i closely inspected the spot and it wasn’t dark (like dried blood) it was light red, and i dabbed it gently with a tissue n a trace of red fluid rubbed off, i still think it was blood... so i thought maybe it was healing, but today 2 months later she still has the same spot on her lip n its real dark n big today, some days its faint some days its easy to see... it comes n goes but never goes completely, i wish it would. she looks so stupid with a spot on her lip, she doesn’t seem sick at all, i keep the tank at the correct temperature, feed her crickets daily and she has no problem eating them... she drinks her water n basks in the light .. she seems happy so i dont think its a big health concern, i jus really wish i could figure out how to make this spot dissapear... again i refer to her as her, but i’m not completely sure n can’t find anything on the internet tellin me how to check the sex of the lizard, so if someone could help me with that it would be greatly appreciated... thanx for listening and please get back to me, any suggestions or comments would help

kind of hard to say without photos..is it possible to get a photo up? As for gender, we need to see a photo of the underside of the tail base :)

Well im not an expert on agama but it sounds to me like she just running into the glass its common with Water dragons im assuming u have a glass tank and if u do put some thing round the tank like a background so she don’t think she can get out and i dont no if u have already but get a hide or 2 put in and im not sure if it same with agama as bearded dragons but ive always been told if u pick them up directly from above it feels like a predator getting them u should try and scoop them from the side hope this helps

there she is... as you can see, it does look like dried blood or something on her lip... the first five pics were taken recently...
... these last four were taken the week I brought her home...
.. i hope it is her just banging against the glass, then i might take "reptails" advice and surround her tank with a background of some kind, so she knows it stops... and no matter where i pick her up from, she runs away... she’s really quick too lol, but like i said once shes in my hands she’ll cling on my shirt or chill on my shoulder, then she’s real calm almost tranquil ... anywayz thanx again for the comments back, hopefully these pictures can help you further
oh and if anyone can confirm the sex by lookin at her under tail, maybe these pics will help...

its really hard to tell from the pics, but try the part with covering the sides, see how it does, if it gets worse, then its a vet visit....its hard to tell but it may be a male (seeing 2 bulges under the cloaca)

btw, try taking out those pebbles and what not and put either sand or paper towel. Shredded wood/forest floor and pebbles are just asking for problems.

problems like if it happened to eat one, it would cause impaction, then death. Male generally have 2 bulges next to each other at the tail base, females have none.
watch this vid I did a while back about basic lizard sexing ...my female isnt dead by the way, she just likes to trick me ;)

thanx man, ill get back to ya in a week and let u know how shes doing.. or he... ill have to further investigate that...
also right now i currently have a 50watt basking light for him, i changed it to a daylight blue 60 watt and she wasnt acting her self, what effect does changing the lighting have on a lizard and what lighting would you reccomend?

first off, you NEED a UVB light, in order for them to be healthy. Feed crickets either gut loaded (feeding crickets a few days before giving it to your agama) or feeding the crickets to your agama with vitamin suppliments (calcium poweder or carnivorous vitamin spray) all can be found at your local pet store, but in no doubt you will need a UVB light. If it isnt strong enough for heat, just get another bulb for heat as well. Im assuming your agama is imported, no offense or anything, but it doesnt look 100% well. After a while once you have the UVB and substrate change etc, Post updates on how its doing. air temp should be around 80, basking site should be about 100 degrees

No offence taken, i needed someone to tell me how he looked... so thanx for the advice because when i bought Jager the pet store assistant told me to use those wood chips as bedding and a 75w basking light (uva).
this is what my set up looked like... the pebbles n marbles looked cool so I added them to the bottom, eventually i used the stones to make a small hill for him to climb on....
so I took your advice and went out and bought the supplies needed to give him the correct atmosphere and lighting....i got an infared 75w 
and a 25w foiled coil UVB(18%) bulb
... I set up the infared to the left, under the basking rock and the new temperature sticker... and I set the UVB light directly in the middle...
..the UVB is on 14hr. on/10hr. off timer and the infared is always on... also as you can see I replaced his bedding with sand...
.. after trying to eat a cricket (now sprayed with nutritional vitamin/calcium supplement) he got alot sand on his nose, haha, but it also did look like he was munching on some sand a little bit, is that ok?? .. well anywayz heres a few more shots of the new set up, tell me what u think and if u notice any other hazards.. 
.... unfortunately i had to go out of town this weekend so I’m not there to watch him during his transition but i got my roommate watching him and keeping me updated... 
, he looked happy when I left him ... thanx again deadvenom, you were more than helpful!

that is alot better! What you can do to minimize eating sand is to feed them out of cage..i do that with my agamas...iyts not necessary but it would beudeful for people how are worried about to much sand being eaten. Very good set up! Glad you did it so soon :D Your agama will be a happy healthy lizard..just with feeding put vitamins on 1 cricket for every 5 crickets :)

another thing, (though not necessary) in the summer or something find/buy slay rocks to go slighty close to the basking light. Your agama would enjoy it. Not necessary, but makes a happier agama

Sorry i havnt replied before ive been really busy with all my beardies but seems like deadvenom had every thing coverd but it does look like he/she just running into the glass and i would be careful about the sand in the cut and infection id just take some wet cotton wool and clean it every other day and cover the sides every thing should be fine
