If you’re thorough, and treat now and again in two weeks, you should be able to eradicate the mites.

Clean out the entire vivarium, spray it down according to the directions. Give your snake a good soak in the tub then put it in a pillowcase in a warm place to dry. Some sprays ( the kind you can treat the snake with) you can put a little spritz inside the pillowcase, then put the snake in it.

Bleach and rinse all hides etc. Any wood branches can be bleached, rinsed thoroughly then baked in a 300* oven for 20 minutes to kill any mites or larvae.

Do yourself a favor. Don’t put regular substrate down until you sure the mites are gone. Also, substrate can be the cause. I freeze any new bag of substrate for 24 hours to kill any mites. My son had a mite problem with his Ball pythons, and every time he thought he had them gone, he’d put new substrate back down and a week later, they’d be back again. There is a spray that many herpetoculturists recommend - provent-a-mite. We got rid of his by using a Betadine bath. Fill a tub with a lid with warm water and put in enough Betadine to make it look like medium tea. Leave them in there for 20 minutes. You drown the mites and the betadine cleans the mite bites that the snakes have. Make sure you use a bleach solution in the cage. SCRUB the corners out, the lid, everything. Vacuum the room and clean whatever the cage is sitting on (and any hard surfaces in the room) with windex. (The ammonia will kill any mites hanging out) You don’t need to bleach the stick. Just bake it at 250 degrees for 2-3 hours, keeping an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t catch fire. Keep your snakes on the paper towels until you sure they are gone. I would say at least two weeks, but better safe than sorry, so go with a month. Good luck.

If the Oven is truely at 250* no stick will catch fire. The temperature at which wood ignites id 451*. (Thank you Mr Bradbury for your book with that title so I always remember it!)

If you wash it first, the hot water gets down into the wood, and the steam from "cooking" it, will kill any bugs fast.

But your way works too!
And Ive heard of Prevent a mite! When my snake had mites 12 years ago (previous snake) they didnt have it at my local petstore. Ive heard it works great. And yeah, paper towels are the way to go cause you can see those tiny suckers move on it!

OOh oh yeah! You can cut up a flea collar ( or a bit of one) and vacuume it up. It will kill the mites in the vaccume bag too then. (works for cat and dog fleas/Larvae/Pupae as well)

soaking in a warm tub. I know to get lice off human hair, rubbing it down with olive oil then using a nit comb works. Olive oil wont hurt your snake, then you can give it a good soak in the tub after and gently rub it. How recently has your snake shed?

They only shed every month or two...so since its only been a few weeks...that at least is normal.

I would only put a cardboard box hide, his water and papertowel or newspapers down in his cage. You can even spray the paper towels or newspaper. Just keep the water dish out the first day, replace it the day after spraying the tank. A good soak in a tub will help get many of those mites off as they do a mass exodus to not drown ( This is why snakes with mites soak for prolonged periods, to get those suckers off, and soothe their skin)

Keep the temperatures and Humidity spot on for the snake.

Make sure all the hides etc are cleaned really well or soaked and rinsed in that bleach solution the other guy was talking about, and keep them out til your snake is mite free (Or you will be cleaning them over and over which is a real pain in the tukus!)

Good luck.

Luckily, they are easily enough killed if you’re on top of it, which it sounds like you are.

I have a gas oven, so fire will catch it on fire no matter what the ambient temp of the oven is. So I have to make sure no pieces fall down into the flame and ignite. But yes, the stick can’t catch on fire normally, unless you have a gas oven. Point is, just bake your stick off.
